General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

Are there a lot of people arguing that Rise of Skywalker is a good or great movie?

No. I am not saying you can't confidently say some are bad, or didn't do well. But the first two films get considerably more debate (I personally think they dropped the ball with the sequels with the second film, even though I found that an entertaining movie on its own, it was the middle of trilogy and disrupted so much of the first movie). I also wouldn't personally call any of the sequels great movies. I wouldn't call the prequels great either. The first trilogy was lightning in a bottle, nothing else that has come since has risen to that level for me

Quality isn't tied to box office performance.

If you want a sequel though it is. To many reasons why good movies bomb.

Deliberately missing off your own fans/outrage marketing is high risk though.

Solo flopped was kinda decent. Backlash vs TLJ and no one really wanted it I suspect would be main reasons.

I agree. Like I said before, they should be trying to bring new and old fans together around the shared love of Star Wars, but too often it feels like they are pitting old and new fans against one another by finding the fault lines and making that the focus (both in terms of marketing and content). Movies have become proxy battlefields for broader conflicts and that is rather unfortunate (especially with something like star wars which was this optimistic romp through space that came out at a deeply cynical time)

I'm sad Solo flopped. I expected it to last in theaters at least a month. There's always been naysayers with a lot of self-importance that cry to the heavens they're going to boicot, and I didn't take them seriously. After that, I just know that if I want to watch a movie in theaters, I have to do it on the first week. No franchise can give any certainty that it will last anymore.

The other big thing to remember, of course, is that number of watchers isn't the key stat Disney cares about. And toys are only a part of the merchandising. Net income is now about park visits, video games, clothing, food, web forums, toothbrushes, etc.
Toys are a very important part of Star Wars fandom. And huge revenue source. Maybe not to Disney, but to Hasbro.

I'm a POC.

I think Rian Johnson is a Racist...things I can't continue to say here.

He did Finn EXTREMELY dirty in TLJ.

They could have redeemed it in RoSW, and hinted at it, but didn't have the guts.

That said, I don't think that's the main reason a lot of people didn't like TLJ, but it's probably one of the small and minor contributions.
I'm a POC. I don't think the dirty done to Finn had anything to do with racism. Just different views of the story they wanted to tell and pettiness on the part of the directors.

Does Hasbro make Star Wars toys?
Most of them. There are some categories that are made by other companies (like Lego and Jacks Pacffic), but they hold the biggest chunk of the licence. Along with Marvel and Disney (parts of princeses are held by Mattel, but Hasbro keeps Barbie scale)

The last five to ten years have been unkind to Hasbro. Disney is a cruel and uncaring licensor. They dictate which characters have to be made into toys and which cannot.

If you go to one of those outlet stores in the United States like Ollie's or Big Lots (which is or has gone out of business), you'll find a ton of Hasbro Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel toys. I mean like a ton. Someone's really been overproducing these toys and I believe at least one retailer is suing Hasbro over this.

Apparently Disney was completely unprepared for how popular the character Luisa Madrigal from Encanto would be and so when people rushed to the stores to buy a toy they weren't available. Luisa was the super strong woman in the movie.

... No matter the sentence, they've been imprisoned for life. And the reason it's so horrifying is because it seems real in a way that a planet busting super station or a prune shooting lighting out of his hands does not. It's not comic book evil it's just evil.

A reason why, is it's happened.
