Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

Sigil, the 3D VTT developed by Wizards of the Coast and formerly known as Project Sigil, has officially launched on Window devices. Today, Wizards of the Coast announced that anyone with a D&D Beyond account (free or paid) can now access Sigil, provided they have a computer with Windows OS. Interestingly, the system's full functionality is based off of D&D Beyond's subscription tiers, with access to create multiplayer rooms and the ability to share and load maps tied to the Master Tier account. Master Tier subscribers also have access to builder kits, custom mini outfits, and unpainted minis. The Sigil client can be downloaded from D&D Beyond.

Sigil has been in development since at least 2023 alongside the launch of the One D&D initiative. One major concern about the new system, which uses Unreal Engine 5 to create 3D battle maps for D&D, was its pricing. At least for now, pricing seems to be tied directly to D&D Beyond subscriptions instead of pushing an additional monetization scheme onto players.

EN World saw a preview build of Sigil earlier this year, with a robust and relatively quick-to-implement map building system. One question that I kept asking while previewing Sigil involved exactly what Wizards wanted Sigil to be, as it functionally appeared to be a level or map builder with some basic D&D automation built into the game. The system doesn't include a full D&D revised 5E engine, but it does contain a significant amount of integration for the app to mimic some of D&D Beyond's dice rolling and resource management system has. It doesn't look like a bad VTT, although it's more appropriate for big set piece battles rather than standard "goblins attack the caravan" type encounters.

Because it’s only a couple of quid and only the DM pays. Free tier is to practice system and for players.
I have to pay for Forge monthly to use Foundry. I don’t see the problem.

I can tell this thread is going to be painful reading on EnWorld.
“I shouldn’t have to pay”
“I don’t have a PC”
“I don’t want to create an account even if it’s free”
“Why can’t [insert VTT] get the support”

Exhausting. Seriously can we have a + thread for Sigil that actually talks about… you know… Sigil.
I'd join in the conversation in a Sigil+ thread!

Worth keeping an eye on Master Tier subscription prices, I suspect. At the moment, I don't have any plans for using this and will not be enthusiastic if I'm suddenly paying more money for a bundled product I can't opt out of.
Most likely look to buy more digital assets in addition to the sub.

You pay for Forge because you want to do so, I self host for free, and still have all the privacy I want of a paid service. This is not at all the same, and you’re clearly lying by trying to say it is.

I am talking about Sigil. You wanting to complain and tone police isn’t.

Sigil is going to need mass adoption to be a product worth building. Paywalling basic features like sharing maps is ridiculous as is not allowing for hosting a room. There’s already nothing but bad PR all over this thing. You’d think they’d want people signing up and making free content to get others excited about it but nope.
Was the post you're replying to removed or something?

Yeah, pretty annoying. I have a feeling logging in with a Wizards account is going to not allow me to access my campaign and PC on D&DB. I so sick and tired of being forced to sign up and use apps that I don't care about and would never use otherwise. Just let me sign up and use one account. On the same note, I wish every time there's an announcement I didn't have to sit (or rather FF) through a 30–60 minute video instead of just reading 5 minutes of text. What a PITA just to download and install this program that I'll most likely delete after 15 minutes.
Just link your Wizard account on DDB. I have linked my twitch, google, wizards, and discord account.

I'm confused, why did I have to install this if it's not stored locally on my hard drive? If it is I can't find it in the control panel/programs to uninstall it. It took me less than 5 minutes to decide I will never use this hot mess ever again. It literally took longer to load than I actually screwed around with it. Well on the plus side it gave me a kick in the ass to finish setting up a laptop that I purchased April 30, 2023, so there's that :ROFLMAO:. Project Sigil...Prognosis Negative...
It creates a file wherever you designate. Mine is in documents.

LOL!

Don't forget the obligatory, "I'll never use a VTT and this one won't change my mind!"

It reminds me of how many Discords now have a dedicated VTT channel. It's because chatting about any VTT stuff, especially How To questions about Foundry, just drown out everything else in a general channel.

Whatever else you can say about VTT, people have opinions.

Here you go: ProBoards

Wow, what a stupid list for free tier. Something like this could bring in so many people if they allowed sharing maps and hosting.
if everything were free, then they would not generate any money. I agree that it would be better to offer the full version for free for a month or so to be able to actually try it. To prevent abuse (setting up a free account each month), maybe limit it to accounts that own stuff on DDB
