World of Warcraft: The War Within

Ion mentioning that Classic is now played with people with modern expectations about doing stuff the "right" way and competing for their second-hand version of world first makes me want to stay the heck out of Classic.
It took literally only weeks for almost all of the people who’d most prominently made noise about how good it was that Classic would bring back slow leveling and gear progression to be joining in power leveling runs designed by private server aces. When I briefly tried it a couple years later, random passersby would harangue me to get out of leveling zones and into proper speed-running groups. It was weird.

When they've been asked about new race/class combinations recently, they've said they'll do it when it makes sense for the story.

Since Midnight is focused on the elves, I would guess we'll see new combinations for them, if anyone. But the Last Titan, after that, takes us back to Northrend, which is crawling with undead, and the Forsaken have a big stake in what happens there, so maybe you'll get your wish at that point. Certainly there are a lot of races that could interact in interesting ways with druids (Wildhammer dwarf druids that turned into gryphons, for one).

Here’s to hoping. It’s such a weird double standard. They can and have simply invented lore to justify adding race-class combos throughout the history of WoW but they’re more reluctant to do so in the last few years. We got tauren rogues, for Thrall’s sake. Gimme them undead paladins and druids already.

The last thing WoW needs, like literally bottom of the list, is more bloomin' elves! Which is precisely what more race/class combos for elves would give us!

So I sincerely hope their vision is a lot broader than that in terms of "what makes sense for the story"!

That said, there's surely no possibility Undercity, which is literally "around the corner" from Quel'Thalas (likely to be a very major part of Midnight) is going to be ignored in that expansion?

It sounds like Quel'thalas is getting a huge facelift in Midnight and might be a neutral expansion hub. It wouldn't be surprised to see Forsaken lands used in part of the story, though.
