I have long desired to run a L5R campaign, but the cultural restrictions on PC behavior demand a group that is more mature, and the tendency for court intrigue is something that my players enjoy in only small doses.
I believe I have hit on a campaign metaplot that will suit my current group (it would probably reduce the creators of L5R to tears, but that's how it goes).
Another issue that I have to confront is the system, especially combat: it is far too slow in real time terms (although I like the lethality). Luckily, I have a system that will capture the fast nature of L5R combat quite nicely.
However, the system lacks the detailed social rules L5R requires. So at last, we come to the issue: I need a set of social rules I can rip out and bolt onto my game system.
So: what system should I look at? If I have a choice d100/d20 systems would be easiest to convert, but anything is doable so long as it does not require unique dice or cards.
