Other D&D Variant Domain play, what, if anything, do you use?

Do any of these supplements consider the passage of time? One thing I am looking for is something that generates domain events over the years. Famine, extreme weather, tragic death or celebrated birth of an heir, discovery of a new resource, &c.
Consider the passage of time, yes, with regards to how long it takes to build stuff, or how long it takes to combat opposing realms, etc. But it sounds like you're looking for domain events specifically, which I'd recommend looking around online for.. there are a fair number of supplements with tables for events, I used some of them in my (too brief) Birthright-inspired game. I imagine if ACKS has it, that'd be a good source as well.

It should be pretty easy to port over to different editions/systems you don't even need to keep the whole divine bloodline if you want to strip it out.
I agree. I always felt the whole holdings system was quite elegant. Abstract enough that it could fit lots of different cultures and societies. I particularly liked the way the domain books interpreted the holdings form abstract to the specific.

So a Law 4 holding might represent a very organized city watch, or perhaps a barracks building, or just a very stable society where everyone looks out for each other, or perhaps a system of corruption and bribery for people to look the other way.

Yeah, the abstractness is one of the benefits. I quite like guilds because, like the other holdings, you don't need to define them but it can be fun to. You might say a guild is based on forestry or mining or fishing and it helps define the important industries in your domain which might help in some roleplaying situations or just as a description as PCs move around the domain and see more mining or logging equipment and workers about the place.

The main problem with the domain system as I see it is complexity.

Not running 3-4 PC kingdoms but effective deciding what the response would be from the dozens and dozens of NPC domains, guilds, temples, etc. that has always been the main issue for me. How to represent that!

I have considered where AI could be used to map the likely behaviour of the different regents.

Re: Birthright
I've been toying with the idea of an "Investure/Legacy" feat to make the bloodline aspect "modular". Get a link to the "land" but also get some drawbacks.
