Team Lake

With the Hydra apparently not chasing, Guldred waved to them from above, trying to get the group to follow him down a narrow tunnel, somewhat like the one that they had travelled down to arrive in the lake, a twisting tunnel of water with rock walls. The main difference was that this one was taller and narrower, and seemed to threaten to trap the kayaks on either side. Both sides had steep ledges, that could be traversed. Perhaps it would be better to leave the kayaks and walk, but there was few good places to disembark, without travelling further into the large dark cavern to the north.

OOC: What do you want to do? If you're going to follow Guldred, you'll need to either get out, or navigate another "waterslide"-like tunnel.

TEAM LAKE - Bjorn

Bjorn, relieved that he had somehow escaped the jaws of death (at least for now), came near the shore and waited for the others to decide on how they wanted to proceed.

OOC: can Bjorn give the kayaks advantage on their checks if he leads the way and guides them?

Can Bjorn give the kayaks advantage on their checks if he leads the way and guides them? [/ooc]
OOC: Yes, if you want to proceed in the Kayaks, Bjorn can lead the way, swimming at the surface. It will be difficult for him to communicate too many warnings, though, and if a certain failure occurs, there's the possibility of them "running him over", but it's not like anything is safe when you're on an adventure.

Team Lake - Aywin

After making conversation with his Kayak companion, and Bill's frantic dance, Aywin sends Svetlana to investigate the dim light and paddles towards Guldred with Bjorn's presence nearby.

Shamal lays on the ground, exhausted by his whirling supplication to the djinn. His grief at the passing of the last palm is quickly replaced by elation at seeing the sproutling as he slowly rises, his breathing still labored by his efforts.

The ways of the djinn are mysterious indeed. They will not allow for your self-will, but in surrender, provide for what is meant to be. I am but a grain of sand, lords, and you are the wind that guides my path. Your humble servant thanks you for hearing his devotion!

With that, Shamal slowly rises and turns his attention to the sproutling, catching his breath.

I am Shamal, blessed of the djinn. I am grateful that we have met, Ironthorn, for it is the will of the wind, of the water, of the sun, and of the sand. You have been set free in this life to do as you wish, but I believe that your forebearer would want you to see the world beyond these caves, and I would see through that desire as my own debt.

Accompany me, Ironthorn. I am traveling with friends, and we are foresworn to end a great evil here. The same evil that killed so many of your ancestors and left the last palm to die thirsty and lonely. Together, we will exact a revenge upon them for their wrongs. And then we can leave these caves together, so that you might enjoy your freedom and taste true air and water as you were meant to.

Shamal stops for a second. But first, I have a final task.

Despite how tired he was, Shamal performs a funerary rite for the last palm to ensure that the last palm would meet his fellows in paradise, singing softly of the open skies, birds, and bubbling water that would await him as he reunited with his friends- never to be alone again.

With that, Shamal motions for Ironthorn to join him and rejoins the others to continue into the caves.

OOC:
Added exhaustion and Bhaal casts into minisheet.
Caught up now?

Merrick, seeing the miracle that unfolded before his eyes, was amazed.

"Rabb al-Wahah really does listen for wishes."

Truly, whatever power was within Merrick, it had sought out Shamal and his Djinni god.

Merrick offered Shamal a pull of water.

"I'll help to find you a way out of here, Ironthorn. I'm Merrick"

He wasn't sure if he should shake hands with it so he just bowed awkwardly.

For catching up,

Here is where we left off, facing a potential mercenary enemy:

Team Caves

The mercenaries were used to strange sounds that echoed up from the caves. Previously Ironbark would occasionally rage, or at other times remain totally silent and still for weeks at a time. But today, the sounds that the guard at the top of the ridge had listened to, before he spotted light and movement down below, had confused him. A horn? Drums, music? Shouting in a foreign tongue? The sounds all echoed strangely, and if there were words in common, he could not make any of them out.

Finally, when a group approached his position wearing Beast Boy sashes, and called out for a "Shift Change" (well out of the usual rotation), he nervously called back, "Stay back! I'm warning you! If you are who you say, Valendra will know!"

Then he called over his shoulder, "Mistress, someone comes!"

Shamal strides forward to meet the mercenary, ready to rely on his quick wit and ready smile. But something about the mercenary's challenge did not sit right with him. It irritated him, and it reminded him of how drained he felt after the ceremony.

Tired, and angry. Yes, how dare yet another person try and stop me. He doesn't deserve the air he breathes, this miscreant.

Shamal stares at the mercenary and hisses at him. Silence, fool. You will let us pass now. Shamal feels a strange throbbing as he says this.

OOC:
So, that's a Hold Person (Wisdom Save) for the Mercenary.

I'll also roll intimidation. Exhaustion of 1 means -2 to d20 tests.

Intimidation: 1D20+3-2 = [4]+3-2 = 5

Makes sense. It's not his thing.
