I found this a weak episode. They went overboard, IMO, and they crossed the line from horror to ridiculous. Still the smart alien should prove interesting in the next episodes.

The Eye seemed to be trying to help the crew of the Maginot. Perhaps this one is a Star Trek alien?

I will have to watch the scene again but was the Eye trying to warn the scientist that the Blood Tick had escaped or was it trying to distract the scientist from noticing that the Blood Tick had escaped? My initial reaction was that the Eye was trying to warn her but I'm not 100% sold on that.

Take for instance when the Eye took over the space mechanic, Shmuel. It attacked the acting captain, then, realizing it was in trouble facing Morrow, drew the attention of the xenomorph, which it in turn attempted to fight immediately after. Which indicates an intelligence that it will take a tactical risk (attracting a mutual enemy in an attempt to distract or eliminate an immediate threat). Of course, when you are only risking your "meat puppet" skin, it makes the strategy a little less risky.

I do wonder as others have already mentioned the xenomorph's response to the Eye, do the two species come from the same planet?

I thought that it was actually directing the ticks, but it was just an impression.

Take near any animal on this planet, and have something jump right at it...its going to react and try to get it off.

Xenomorphs aren't stupid, they see some unknown little critter jump on them, they are going to get that sucker off as quick as they can!

Fair point. Xenomorphs are probably not accustomed to anything trying to go mano y mano against them beyond a Predator.

Also, while Xenomorphs aren't stupid, the drones are certainly expendable when a Queen is around. I'm thinking of the xenos that were cut down en masse via the automated sentry guns in Aliens. When it is a solo, as you noted, their sense of self-preservation is much higher.
