Well, word from some previews is thst theybdo go into this for some of the Species, at least Gold and Shield Dwarves have been mentioned. Given that Goliaths are in the PHB, wouldn't surprise me if we got a bit of lore for players to hang their Golisth coat on.

Goliaths are pretty easy to slot in on the margins of civilization, really.
