Dragonbane general thread [+]

since it doesn't have ducks, halflings, or wolfkin from what I recall
Now I might be interested!

Trudvang always seemed like an interesting setting I wanted to read about. Dragonbane also seemed interesting but the quoted elements pushed it into a tone that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I'll wait and see for the content of the books, but if there's a few set of professions and characters that's very setting appropriate it might be a good match of mechanics and tone for me.

Totally agree.

The dragonbane whimsy never landed with me and I don’t like fantasy games that veer in that direction.

Trudvang setting was cool as much as I remember.

This KS is a buy for me.

I have a friend who has Trudvang in each game system and he played in my year long DB campaign, so this is an auto buy for him.

Even better they tapped the same artist for some new art!

While DB actually got me into ducks, I understand the vibe as that was why I never tried Tunnels and Trolls back in the day. Now adays, I have enough serious stuff going on in my life, I need a does of dark whimsy (and you can't deny the best whimsy is the type with a dark under current to it.)

I'm super pumped about Trudvang, it seems like a great fit for people who like that mythic northern style of fiction, somewhat Tolkien-esque. Channeling the Icelandic Sagas, the Kalevala, etc...

Also its just 4 new books for Dragonbane. Its a system I really like, so I'm pumped to see it continue to get new content at a steady clip.

I never really got into Trudvang, but my understanding is that Paul Bonner is to Trudvang as Brom is to Dark Sun, diTerlizzi is to Planescape, and Reynolds is to Eberron.

That's the turn-off for me. I don't feel like we are somehow lacking Norse-inspired fantasy TTRPGs in the hobby. I'm at the point in my life where things with "Vikings" are generally a pass for me.

I'm not sure though if Trudvang is the best answer to that problem since it doesn't have ducks, halflings, or wolfkin from what I recall. I would have preferred a fully fleshed out setting built from the implied setting of the core box and APs. But I also don't think that we Anglophones are really the audience for Free League's Dragonbane line.
Just have to add them all back in. Besides the awesome that is the system itself, a big draw is the races. Especially the ducks.

Exactly. Mirth & Mayhem. You can have both whimsy and darkness. They're not mutually exclusive. I've always thought it more silly and childish to insist on the purest black grimdark without a hint of irony or glee than to have goofy elements like ducks and wolfkin and halflings.
