Free League Publishing has announced Hands of the White Wizard, a new adventure anthology for The One Ring. The new adventure will also be published as Trials of Saruman for The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game, the 5E version of The One Ring. The new anthology will focus on Saruman, with players choosing either to serve Saruman or spy on him to uncover his secrets. The anthology will feature six adventures, spanning between 2965 of the Third Era and the beginning of the War of the Ring. Pre-orders for the adventures are available now, with a PDF available immediately. No physical release date has been announced yet.

The full description of the books are as follows:

Set between 2965 and the opening moves of the War of the Ring, these adventures invite players to serve, observe, or challenge Saruman the White at the height of his wisdom and the edge of his corruption. Once a counselor to kings and master of Ring-lore, Saruman now rules from Isengard, a bastion of knowledge and power where the first cracks of pride begin to show. The treason of Isengard has not yet begun, but its seeds are sown. The question is whether his downfall is inevitable or if the courage of heroes can still change his fate and the fate of Middle-earth itself.

Hands of the White Wizard & Trials of Saruman Key Features:
  • Serve or Spy: Decide whether your heroes will aid the White Wizard or uncover the secrets he keeps.
  • Six Adventures Across an Era: Follow Saruman’s path from counselor and scholar to would-be tyrant, spanning the years 2965 to the War of the Ring.
  • Lore of Isengard: Discover new allies, foes, and mysteries within Orthanc and the valley of Nan Curunír.

I don't play TOR anymore, or even campaign in ME, but I just can't resist buying any and all TOR supplements.

What I wish for are...
  1. Still waiting to discover a ruleset/variant that hits my sweet spot for ME. (I keep thinking about Dragonbane.)
  2. While I find all the ME adventure locations delightful, I would love a campaign (or two) that stitches these locations together in a long narrative arc. Sort of like Darkening of Mirkwood.
The Darkening of Mirkwood is one of the best published campaigns I've ever seen, right up there with the Great Pendragon Campaign. So glad I still have all my TOR 1e books!

It has to be said that every supplement that has added "adventure locations" offers a campaign outline you can run with them.

Granted. It's not as robust as a full adventure or campaign but it does gives you a rundown on what you could do with the locations.
