Pineapple? On a burger? That's more heretical than Hawaiian pizza.

(Egg's common. I've put egg into the patty itself when making it to help it hold together. Though I prefer it without the egg.)

Hawaiian burger at a fish and chip shop.

A "buck" or "deluxe" burger often is onions, egg, pineapple, bacon.

They generally have a menu with add ons. Onion, eggs, pineapple, steak, bacon etc.

Generally won't find it at a restaurant.

When I was a kid no burger joints not even McDonald's. No pizza joints either. So the Hawaiian burger was what I usually got. They grill the pineapple generally.

There was (maybe still is but I haven't seen one for a while) a chain of upmarket burger restaurants in the UK called GBK (Gourmet Burger Kitchen) which was founded by a couple of Kiwis in London back in 2005 or so. They were quite popular until about 2015, maybe?

Their burgers weren't cheap but they were mostly pretty good and they had some interesting combinations (for 2010) such as the Kiwi burger which had IIRC beetroot, a fried egg, and pineapple. It was rather tasty.

Aussie have something similar. Its called the Aussie Burger.

Fancy one but close enough. Shredded beetroot.

Pineapple on a burger is not uncommon in these parts, but Canadians like pineapple on a lot of stuff that Americans find strange. It's a wierd cultural quirk. Ham and pineapple pizza is delicious, but I don't much care for it on my own burgers. But I'll do avocado or guacamole all day long.

At least the ketchup on ice cream thing mostly died a well deserved death back in the '70s. I can't remember what movie it was featured in as some sort of Canadian cultural thing, back then, but it was a "road movie." I thought it was "Goin' Down the Road" (the one that SCTV lampooned), but no.

We have a local place with about 70 burgers (they also have a pretty broad menu, including casseroles). Burgers can even be chicken.

My go-to from there tends to be the General Forster, which is just a burger topped with pimento cheese.
