He might be for all we know.. For me the oppressive algorithms is really the dividing line more than anything else.

There are days where I pop on here and there's really no content that catches my eye and I just close the browser. That's how you know it's different. Every other site is so invested in keeping you glued to them. Supposedly X deprioritizes posts that have external links, because they don't want you leaving the page.

ENWorld is comfortable in saying "Hey.. Maybe you're not feeling us today.. Come back later. We'll be here when you do"

This is my point. Social Media, at best, is casual surface engagement. At its worst, it is an algorithm driven horror show full of bots and bad actors that leads you down a path of extremism and lunacy.

For instance, Circvs Maximvs , a forum, felt like real interaction with people who met up several times a year.

It largely fragmented and moved to FB where people post about themselves but the actual talking and connecting disappeared. Some still do the Camp Day but the real engagement throughout the year died.

Social media is not engagement. It is designed for a dopamine causing addiction train.

I come to ENWorld to engage with people an ideas around a shared hobby. I interact with a diverse community. I may disagree with them but like to hear their thoughts.

Social Media is not the same.
