Spoilers Pluribus

Note: all of my points above can and hopefully will be addressed by a clever twist in the story. It seems to me likely that, given how many holes there are in the Hive Mind's story, the other shoe will drop and explain a lot of stuff that increasingly makes no sense. For instance, maybe the Hive Mind is prohibited from all the stuff it says it is, but whatever is behind it has no such compunctions and can override the Hive Mind when necessary.

I certainly hope so. I’ll admit I stumbled hard on the “can’t pick fruit” as well. That’s not killing, that’s the equivalent of giving someone a haircut.

Mowing the lawns, pulling weeds? The infrastructure isn’t going to last long under those circumstances. Think kudzu weeds. Which will lead to more dying as it decays and hinders distribution.

Been reading the Reddit threads about it, and the leading theories over there are:
1) It is silly, the hive mind are a bit confused here.
2) The plant is not ready to give the fruit until it naturally releases; any sooner would be stealing it.

Btw, fun fact: my X-sister-in-law was the inspiration for your avatar. She was interning at Disney at the time and the Incredible team liked her look and mannerisms, so would sketch her while she worked! 😄

This was my interpretation. It also ties to why they can't farm (modify the plant's default processes to their own benefit), but they will milk animals that experience issues if they aren't milked due to past farming/breeding changes.

Also RE: consuming bacteria - the hive only prefers to be vegetarian, it will still eat what it has to in order to survive (see also: HDP).

We don’t know.
Yes, we know almost nothing.... I was looking for hypothetical ideas. Should have been more clear.

I assume they aren't joined with creatures on other planets, or they'd have a way to feed themselves. They don't seem to have brought knowledge of advanced technology with them? Like, do we think they only know what humans know on earth?
