D&D 5E (2024) Unconfirmed Dark Sun World Book

As mentioned already in this thread, the new FR books have slavery, and they were published a month or two ago.

A lot of people seem to be holding a grudge against some Platonic Ideal WotC design team rather than engaging with what has actually come out in 5E products.

WotC already published a book where the PC's literally start out as slaves. Out of the Abyss has the first section starting out as captured by the Drow and doing slave work for a while until an event occurs that allows for an escape.

Then later, it's made clear that the Duergar also practice slavery. So clearly WotC doesn't have an issue with it... so why do people keep saying this?

I've read the new FR books, and I really don't remember any references to slavery. I'm sure there's something in there, but it's fleeting. Nothing like Out of the Abyss.

Then again, tbh I was one of those who thought WotC would stay away from Dark Sun due to their standards & practices (since they said as much a few years ago). Obviously, things have changed.

Different people in charge these days. I can see Justice Arman being a bit more bold in seeing a respectful way to tackle Dark Sun than the leaders from a few years ago.

Sure. But your "a lot of people seem to be holding a grudge" and "Platonic ideal design team" post above feels like you think people manufactured out of whole cloth this idea that WotC wouldn't touch Dark Sun. People largely think that because Kyle Brink, speaking on behalf of WotC, said in 2023 that the setting was "too problematic" to use. It's hardly shocking that people are basing their views on something the company actually said just two years ago.

Because of the words WotC Staff said, the errata's WotC published, and the tone of WotC products since roughly 2018, and especially post 2020 when the world lost its mind for a few years?

I won't hold my breath or anything, but maybe we're moving past that now. At least, when it comes to WotC, maybe not the rest of the world.
