Tell me about the RPG section of your local game store

I got a shiny gift certificate for my aforementioned FLGS, so I went there today to get the Stormlight handbook and it was all gone! I thought no one cared about Cosmere /s!

The store overall was picked pretty clean: Stormlight handbook & the Starter Set, Heroes of Borderlands, Five Hundred Year Vampire, Wanderhome (good thing I snagged the hardcover when I did!), and many other games were just sold out.

I was bummed that I couldn't get anything, but I was happy to see the store doing well.

We stock a wide selection of rpgs. Indie and small press rpgs outsell mainstream (ie D&D and Pathfinder about 5:1)

My FLGS, where I've played in Mothership and Daggerheart games this fall, is 80% or more board games, with the RPGs at the back. But interestingly, a lot of that stock appears to be someone at the store doing retail pledges on Kickstarter, as there are Kickstarter-exclusive boxed sets, etc., there.

There's actually relatively little D&D or Pathfinder and it's not spotlighted. (I assume they figure those people are just going to the local Barnes & Noble or the nearby comic shop which has a dusty shelf of 2014 D&D and Pathfinder 1E books.)

They also have bins of loose dice and lots of dice bags, although that's all by the front counter, not near the RPGs, presumably as an impulse buy for everyone.

That's a very attractrive store - where is it located? I thought you were Third Kingdom Games who publishes all those terrific hexcrawl products - you own or manage a store too? I own Filling in the Blanks and Random Weather Generation and use them with Old School Essentials whenever my party of players is up for some intense wilderness exploration.

Anyways...warms my heart that indies sell so well at your store.

That is me, too. I opened a game store in Charlottesville a few years back with my stepson and a friend of his.

Oh nice. I was told that's a picturesque city with an nice, open mall in the old section. In my 2 decades of software consulting I never did get out that way, but I think I was close when I worked in Richmond VA?
