She may have been make-uped to look like the Tomb Raider...but she really doesn't "look" like the Tomb Raider.

Can't say I was a fan of the Alicia Vikander films, but at least she looked like the Tomb Raider (most recent version from Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider).

Of course, that pales in relation to whether the actress can act in the way that makes you feel as if the part fits them. That may prove to be a strength for Sophie Turner, but obviously I have no idea whether she will or won't at this point.

The actual resemblance of Angelina Jolie to Lara Croft was never particularly strong. Did not seem to get in the way of her popularity.

Ah, but will Chris Barrie (Arnold J. Rimmer from "Red Dwarf") still be her butler, like in the Angelina Jolie version? I freaked out seeing old Rimsey in the original movie.

The Batmen didn't all look like the comic-book Batman. All the James Bonds look different. Pretty much everybody in the Marvel films. If you're limiting casting only to people who look just like the video game art, you're probably dooming your film from the outset--there's probably 3 people in the world who fit the bill, and they're probably not actors. How many of the following Tony Starks look like Robert Downey Jr?

All you can do is style an actor appropriately when they bring the right energy and presence to the role. Give RDJ Stark's haircut and facial hair, and ask him to act. Actors can't control what their faces look like (well, plastic surgery aside!), but they can portray the character.

And, let's face it, you're criticising her for not looking like this?

More seriously: I don’t have strong feelings in either direction. Personally, my intuitive expectation would have been someone a bit older and maybe more muscular. But I didn’t hear any news on what period of the Tomb Raider timeline the new series will cover, so maybe it’s my expectations that are off (last thing I saw was the animated series on Netflix).

Or Another of the more modern Lara Croft from the recent Tomb Raider Series (which most of our young people will probably be more familiar with than the old Relic the old people like us are familiar with)

People want the Lara with attitude back, and the classic outfit is a good way to signal that that is what they are going for. I doubt they are going to jettison all the lessons of the Survivor Trilogy because the next game coming out, Catalyst, is explicitly going to try and merge the Classic and Survivor storylines.
