This got me started
When I got it was the summer of 1981 and I was 12. I got the keys to the car from my mother, went out to the parking lot, and just started reading it. I remember thinking it was so in-depth about specifics compared to the Holmes Basic edition that my friend had.What were your thoughts as you began reading through it for the first time? Also, about what age?
For me, at around 10, I remember being amazed at how useful numbers could be!

Always wanted D&D 2e, but wasn't allowed, so parents compromised and got these for me on Christmas (4th grader at the time). Played Rifts the most, but enjoyed the occasional GURPS game. Traveler was too difficult for me to understand unfortunately, and my parents had zero interest in helping me figure it out, but I kept it around for years because I liked the artwork.

Haha, I thought the same thing.Yeah, my mother was FULLY swept up in the Satanic Panic through the late 80s, and for as ruthlessly feminist as she was, she had absolutely no issues with me playing the game that had a tentacle demon on a party barge surrounded by sexy slave women in negligees on the cover.
