That's what it was. What is might be is still up for discussion.Or we can understand that in D&D psionics, despite it's variety over the editions, consistently represented internal mental power that used no external sources or components*.
Yes, which is why I said "over the editions" and "used" to indicate past tense. 5e hasn't established psionics, yet. That said, WotC will get huge blowback if they try to make it yet another V, S, M magic accessing the weave class. There's no great advantage for doing so, and they can get all of the balance in other ways that aren't hard to do.That's what it was. What is might be is still up for discussion.
The value of maintaining a "tradition" is not weighed particularly heavily, AFAIK, unless the surveys indicate otherwise.
We have an idea what D&D magic is, and unlike psionics it’s remained somewhat consistent across editions - and we can even point at a specific literary source.I mean, magic itself is too varied to argue it's nuances about except to narrow it down to a source. The biggest complaint about D&D is that it doesn't match the magic of X fiction (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Wheel of Time). No psionics system is going to match what X fiction does any better.
Did Paizo receive any blowback when they made psionics into another form of magic for Pathfinder? curiousThat said, WotC will get huge blowback if they try to make it yet another V, S, M magic accessing the weave class.
I don’t think the psionics has made any mention of the weave as yet. Accessing the far realms perhaps.accessing the weave

I don't know. Paizo isn't D&D(the brand) and so wasn't tied to the same things D&D will be tied to. I never played Pathfinder or paid attention to Paizo.Did Paizo receive any blowback when they made psionics into another form of magic for Pathfinder? curious
Paizo built PF1 off of 3.5e's chassis and has been likened by some as 3.75e D&D. PF2 otoh is a different story and has become its' own RPG.I don't know. Paizo isn't D&D(the brand) and so wasn't tied to the same things D&D will be tied to. I never played Pathfinder or paid attention to Paizo.
