I wouldn't trust the pictures. Artistic depictions of exotic animals are often inaccurate.

I'm pretty sure none of those artist who drew those pictures have ever seen an owlbear.

I had thought, no, thinking back to the dozen or so pictures of owlbears I remember seeing over the years and editions I do not remember any of them having what look like teeth, they have beaks for the owl part.

Then looking at the actual D&D owlbear pictures I have shows lots and lots of them with teeth like stuff if you look closely.
