DLSS 5 will be the worst thing to EVER happen to video games

Yeah sure, but if pulling a list of fantasy locations out of thin air is considered hard without AI help, then how do you GM? At all?
I don't find it difficult, but I'm a high-improv low-prep GM; I do know other GMs who function better with more time to be more creative.

And coming up with evocative fantasy names, especially dozens of them, isn't the easiest of tasks; random name lists have been a feature of lots of RPG books in the past for precisely that reason.

and the infinite number of random name generators for everything that exist

Then there are the fantasy name generators for people, places, etc. Those have been a thing on the web for decades.

Lots of websites for this kind of thing.

Edit: beaten to the post!

Coming up with names is literally the hardest part of GMing for me. I'll conjure whole adventures out of the ether while we're sitting at the table if I have to, as long as nothing needs a proper noun.
when i was in high school, i used classmates names with a few added letters..it got me in a bit of trouble

Yeah, sure, the hype is that people will lose their jobs over AI, so they're not thrilled because nobody knows if that's just hype to encourage investment, or if it's real. But in rubber meets the road, what it really offers is somewhat a democratization of skills that people don't have. I want some character art for my PC? I can get grok or chatgpt to whip something up for me. I don't have a great resume photo? I can upload a picture and have it clean it up for me. Most people use AI for a lot of little tasks and appreciate it, but they're told to worry about what AI will do, so they do worry. I want a list of fantasy locations? I put in a prompt and it gives me names, etc. None of those are things that I could easily do without AI, so I'd just live without.

But a lot of people, especially in online bubbles bring out the flamethrowers for that kind of usage, and I can't wait for that (IMO obvious) over-reaction to go away.

I would largely say it's not just that people think they will lose their jobs over it, it's that people have, and the replacement AI systems have been problematic at best. Talking about people disliking "AI" as a "fad" misses all the currently problems with the technology, the overpromising, the underdelivering, and the obnoxiousness of those in charge pushing it and simply not recognizing what people want. It's not something that there is actual desire for among the public, but rather the companies who have spent way too much money into it to watch it fail. This isn't just people disliking it to dislike it, but simply resisting every tech company trying to forcibly insert it into their lives.

DLSS5 is a good example: it's a filter that seemingly makes everyone closer to blasted out photo influencer lighting, added makeup and pushing people closer to those facial and body proportions. I've seen multiple people point out that it just doesn't modify lighting, but straight up changes the facial proportions of Grace from RE9, from widening her chin slightly to giving her a digital nose job. And this is not even looking at in motion with the weird ghosting/hallucinated frames that cost two 5090s to run. Not only does this miss what people wanted, but instead gave them what they didn't want: making their games look like homogenized Instagram reels.

if you're credulous enough to believe that gen ai has any uses other than scamming, i've got a bridge to sell you. the devs involved in these "Reveals" have stated they did not sign off on anything involving it. it erodes the artistic identity of the actual video game for the sake of making some absurd porn-brained idea of a woman. she's got lip fillers ofr god's sake. it made her hair dyed?

i know the userbase of his forum is mostly super age'd and out of touch but this is alarming to see so many people who think this looks good. are you healthy? you sure as hell have no idea of anything that goes on in the game industry if you think this has anything good lol
