Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

Oh, before I go any further are we naming this Dark Dweller Portion like the Cleon Special, since the original monster was a "Single Portion of the Dark Dweller"?

Yes, let's call it a Portion.

Moving to the other abilities, your homebrew seems fine, but I also wouldn't mind increasing Int, Wis, or both. I mean, "genius" can be a bit higher than Int 18 in 3.X, and the morale indicates a high Will associated with high Wis. What do you think about bumping those up to 20 or 21?

I put Intelligence 18 in there because the original had "Int genius (18)" in its statblock, but there's no harm in bumping it up. After all it does, literally, have a brain the size of a (small) planet if its nervous system is spread across all of Maelost.

Would even be prepared to go higher than Int & Wis 21.

We gave the Master Slaiyith's Int 21, Wis 24, Cha 24 and the Deep Dweller could be older and wiser than them.

How about Int 23, Wis 26, Cha 26?

I gave the Cleon Special Dark Dweller Portion all-odd physical stats (Str 25, Dex 15, Con 19) and all-even mental stats (Int 18, Wis 18, Cha 20) with Charisma a couple of points higher than the rest.

If we followed that, the closest match to the above would be Int 24, Wis 24, Cha 26.

I'm thinking we might consider increasing the Constitution as 19 seems rather mediocre for a creature of its stature. Perhaps Con 23?

Am fine keeping the Dex 15 of the Cleon Special.

That'd make for Abilities: Str 25, Dex 15, Con 23, Int 24, Wis 24, Cha 26.
