General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

And it basically is the same name. The different spelling was to differentiate between the two so that you knew who the real Luke was vs. the clone one.
The elongated vowel is a real thing in-universe that clones do! Thrawn makes note of it with Joruus (as opposed to Jorus)!

I love the OG Thrawn Trilogy but yeah, it had some goofy stuff

I read an article recently suggesting Droids in SW are enslaved and the there needs to be a liberation story about them.

I don’t think I’d want that but it does make my think about Droids in SW. I always loved their alien languages and indifference to people. I just assumed C-3PO and R2-D2 were exceptions. Obviously, since the OT we have seen this exception passed on to other droids making it seem more widely possible for Droids to be seen as A.I. life forms worthy of dignity and respect,

I don’t know where to go with all that but I’d love to hear thoughts of folks on the topic of Droids.

This was a minor point in Solo. Lando's droid is pro-droid-freedom. They also made it a kinda sexual thing. 🤷‍♂️ And a little bit of "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" if you think too much about her fate.

In Legacy, there were a few references made to the fact that regular memory wipes were basically the thing that stopped droids from become more self aware as true AI. Resetting them basically returned their personality, including their sense of individuality, back to factory settings. Droids like R2 and 3PO going so long without a wipe was very rare and made them "unique". Ostensibly, this is also why some droids could become meaningful characters, like IG-88, while others were just background.

There are also a lot of possible implications from the prequels (in universe: the Clone Wars). For example, if the whole lot could decide they didn't want to take orders anymore the droids wouldn't make a very useful army. So there is ostensibly something that prevents an uprising. Maybe the implication is that what we see as "true AI" is a lot less than that. Maybe there's some hard coded personality block that prevents droids from wanting to be free.

As I recall droids were rather indifferent to wiping too. Doesn’t C-3PO suggest wiping R2 early in new hope?
