Appearance: When on duty, Natalie wears her white hair up, to keep it out of her face. She generally wears a simple dark green woman’s trenchcoat, something practical that works in most weather conditions. Off duty, she prefers to be called Natalia, lets her hair down, and wears snug black dresses. This isn’t a disguise, anyone who meets Natalie or Natalia will have no problem recognizing the other, she just likes having a very practical appearance when on the job. Of course, for undercover, she might look like anything, from a prudish schoolmarm to a lady of the evening, although scary but seductive disguises, like a vampiress, are a personal favorite.

Background: Natalie grew up in a small village in Darkon, her mother a wizard, but considered by most of the town to be a witch. Natalie never knew who her father was, and her mother never volunteered the information. But Natalie was impressed that her mother could go it alone, without a man. One thing that helped in that respect was the fear everyone showed her mother, a fear that Natalie occasionally used for her own benefit, scaring aggressive boys and spiteful girls with talk of hexes and curses. But she never, ever feared her mother, or her mother’s familiar, an owl named Perspicacious, or “Perspie” to Natalie.

Natalie was a wild child. She’d often get into trouble, usually involving artfully lying to adults to steal a few coins, or get alcohol, sometimes just scaring them instead, plucking a hair from someone’s head and implying her mother could find a use for it. But one day shortly after her fifteenth birthday, while doing an elaborate scam to cheat an elderly couple out of an antique that Natalie really had no use for, she was astonished by Perspie flying up and landing on her shoulder. Perspie almost never left her mother’s side, and Natalie knew something was wrong. Returning home, she opened the door to find the interior walls, the furniture, well, nearly everything, covered in blood and bits of flesh and bone. And a few tattered pieces of bloody cloth, that had once been her mother’s dress.

Natalie went into shock, and doesn’t remember much about the next few days. An investigator was brought in. The initial conclusion was that Natalie’s mother had summoned something she shouldn’t have, but Natalie refused to believe this. Her mother was too skilled for that. She convinced the investigator to look deeper, and he eventually found that the town priest had made a pact with some demonic thing to rid his town of the witch. In the end, the demon was killed, and the priest was locked up for “dealing with the devil”. The investigator, admiring the strength in young Natalie, took her in.

Over the next few years, Natalie, or ‘Natalia’ as she sometimes liked to be called, grew to admire her foster father as well. She quit wasting time with petty scams, and tried to be a better person, for him. She apprenticed to a wizard, who claimed she had a natural talent for magic, and Perspie seemed happy to be her familiar, as he had been for her mother. But sometimes, Natalie's wild side called to her, and to escape disappointing her new father, she’d put on a wig, apply different make-up, and hit the taverns. At these times, she found that there was power in showing a little magic, and inducing a little fear in people. It gave her strength, the strength her mother had. And when, in disguise, she discovered a werewolf that her foster dad had been tracking for months, she decided to tell her dad about her double life. Of course, he didn’t approve, but when her disguise helped kill the creature, it eased some of the anger.

Since then, Natalie has tried to follow in her foster father’s footsteps, at first investigating with him, then on her own, and now with a group of like-minded individuals. She’s always very professional when on the job. No-nonsense. But she likes excuses to throw on a disguise and act thoroughly different, particularly when she gets to scare someone. She still gets a kick out of that. Perhaps too much of a kick.

Appearance: A thick suit of metal completely blocks this figure off from the rest of the world, making it more than a little difficulty to determine much about him at a glance. There are other ways one can learn something about a person than by merely looking at their face though.
For example, consider his equipment. The man's armor and weapons are clearly well cared for, that's for certain. Not a patch of rust shows, the smell of oil hangs faintly in the air and, were you to hazard a guess, you'd bet in a bright light you could shave with the reflection off his breastplate.
It's also fairly obvious that he's a friendly fellow. Sure, his every step is a metallic cry identical to those before, but that does little to stop him from pausing now and again to wave or call out to a random passerby. Surprisingly, most of said people are fairly friendly in return; many short, genuine conversations are had as the armored figure makes his way about town, whistling quietly to himself when he isn't asking about how a merchant's children fare.

Background - In His Eyes: Orum was born in some small town somewhere of no consequence whatsoever. Nice people, backbone of the country, salt of the earth, but other than the occasional chipper letter and slice of his pay he sends back home to the family he's scarcely given it a second thought since leaving. You see, at a young age Orum was forcefully elevated from the lowly destiny of "Dirt Farmer in Training" into the glorious drafted rank and file of the Viaki militia. This was thanks largely to recent attacks by the undead menace which had woefully drained the city's military force. An unfortunate situation, to be certain, yet one which helped to shape a certain young soldier's life for the better from then on.

Truely, Orum was greatful for the hours of special training he recieved on his path to becoming one of Viaki's finest. After all, any opportunity he had to improve his skills at protecting the welfare of the common man had to be leaped upon; it wouldn't do to have a poorly trained man risking the lives of those around him. Yes, he did think it a little odd that he was the only one to take part in said special training. Yes, he does find himself more than a little alienated from the rest of the town's guard thanks to the special treatment and assignments he sometimes recieves. Orum tries not to dwell on such things though - whenever he does, he tends to get terribly painful headaches. Very...very...terrible headaches.

None of that is really important though. What IS important is that Orum gets out there in the wonderous city of Viaki each and every day and makes certain it's citizens are safe and, above all else, assured that all is continuing to flow as clockwork.

Appearance: Even though he's a little taller than average, with his average build and unremarkable looks Anton fits the very definition of nondescript, usually preferring to conduct his work undercover. When about the city he usually wears a comfortably-worn pair of thick-soled leather boots, sturdy homespun trousers and green tunic under a faded gray cloak. When expecting trouble he dons his chain shirt and covers it with a leather jerkin.

Background: As far as Anton can remember he's always lived in Viaki, but his memories of his childhood have always been somewhat hazy. Even as a young man he would frequently spend hours walking the streets of the city, watching people, learning how the city functioned. It seemed to him that the city was almost alive, citizens coursing through it's streets like blood, caravans reaching out as its arms.

When Anton was about 15 he started to notice that while the city felt alive it certainly wasn't well. Eventually he came to understand that the fevered pace of life in the city wasn't just because life is hard but was a symptom of the city trying to fight off an infection. Not a disease of the body, but one willfully created by the inhabitants of Viaki. Hatred, greed, envy; these were the causes of the malady that had overcome the city, his city. He had to do something about it, so Anton joined the city guard.

For eleven years now Anton has served in the city guard, battling the city's ills with justice and compassion. His insight into the workings of the city and it's inhabitants have helped bring a small measure of sanity back to the city, and even though he frequently feels like he's fighting an unwinnable war, Anton takes pride in his work, keeping the city healthy.

Appearance: Quilan stands extremely tall for a halfling; you feel sorry for the pain his mother must have gone through in labor. Quilan wears a shirt with buttons and a black vest over it, accented with a pocket watch. He wears simple trousers with a rather nice belt.

When he's being put into the field of duty, he has a leather black shirt and leather pants that he wears over his mithril shirt. He wears a very thin quiver on his leg, and he'll often have various tools kept within his attire. He carries no weapon other than the quiver.

Personality: Quilan is very whimsical in nature and has an attention span that is fleeting at best. He does whatever he enjoys and he tries to enjoy whatever it is he is doing. To him, pleasure and comfortability are key; those are the two aspects that make a happy life. He can be a little curious when it strikes him, although he's never a person to ask things directly. If he really wants to know about something, he'll find another way...

Background: Quilan was born and raised in a travelling circus (even the sad state of the lands of Ravenloft still can find joy in wandering entertainment), where he was trained and performed as a knife thrower. Surprisingly, he grew bored with the often interesting life of entertainment and took to crime at night to feed his passion, robbing the townspeople of the cities the circus would visit.

It all came tumbling down in the city of Viaki. After he was caught by the police, a rather surprising and lucky even occured. Rather than sentence him to immediate death, the common treatment for an outsider such as he, the police made Quilan an offer that amused and intrigued him. Offered a position running espionage for the investigation squad, Quilan was intrigued and amused at the idea that he could now do all the things he loved without the moral ramifications that crime involved. While he's not entirely loyal to the police, he's at least entertained by the, and for Quilan, entertainment goes a long way. This year marks his fifth year working within the squad.

Appearance: Upon first glance, there is not much to note. But when looking
at her for more than a glance, others find that she has somewhat nice
features, with smooth skin, green eyes that sparle with knowledge, and a
smile that can be stoic at times, yet shows her resolve. She usually dons her
clerical vestments, with a few modifications. She has added sort of an apron
like pouch, to hold her tools of the trade while working. She keeps shoulder
length brown hair straight and tied in a pony tail most of the time. Her skin is
a little pale from all the insed work that she does. She does not adorn any
rings or jewelry, save for her Holy Symbol that she takes with her at all times.


Background: Alyson was born into an aristocratic family in Rivalis. She grew
up well, and her father was a kind man. As she grew, he had tudors to teach
her all that she could learn, and found that she was very able to gain
knowledge in many things. As she grew, she was sent to study at the
University in Martira Bayfor a while, pouring through books in the library and
spending many a night by candle light reading everything she could get her
hands on.

While home for a break, she witnessed her fathers murder, by an unknown
assailant. She sat there, holding him, yet not being able to do anything to
help him. Torn at that moment, she felt all kinds of feelings. Hate, remorse,
fear, love, and others. With the loss of her father and the escape of the
murderer, she began her studies or the investigative nature of crimes. She
learned about gathering info, talking to people, looking at clues, and
sometimes even talked the local guards into looking at the scenes of crimes.
They thought it just to let her be able to help out, since they knew she lost a
lot. They found that she had a great skill in these matters, and talked her into
pursuing another path. One that would help in healing and making sure that
others would not be so prone to these vile acts.

She began her studies of the deity Ezra. ralizing that knowledge is power, she
poured through countless books and articles, trying to get as much
information as possible to aid her in her studies. She only wanted to deal with
the evils in this world, and allow others to live peacefully. An anchorite heard
of her, and began teaching her the more intricate details of the faith. He
could see that she had the power to heal, and prunned that power as much
as he could assist with. Her talents began taking course, and she was called
by the local guards to assist with matters at times dealing with injured people
and others not so lucky to live.

She could discern many different ways of death, and helped in catching the
murderers and culprits behind these acts. She keeps to herself, and can
usually be found reading books in her office, or pouring through a fresh
cadaver for new clues and such. She obviously is not as squeemesh as others
perceive her to be. She was apprenticed to the local Anatomist, who was
soon to be retiring. After learning her new skills, she was proficient in
surgeries and autopsies. Now, with a newfound way of dealing with murders,
she wants to help in any way she can.

Appearance:
Her brown hair is done up in a simple shoulder length braid at all times
to keep it out of her face when working. Clad in boots, breeches and a
sturdy cloak she looks ready to face adverse weather if need be. Typically
she walks with a quarterstaff in her hand, backpack of various supplies
slung over her shoulder, and a sling on her belt next to a pouch of stones.

Background:
Kalri ran away from home at a young age to pursue medical studies rather than
be stuck on a farm taking care of livestock. She doesn't discuss her past
much, she would rather talk about the exciting future ahead of her. In
the past few years she has studied under various scholars who specialized in
Alchemy, Healing and Anatomy among other generalized topics. She has seen
several physicians concerning her afflictions of seeing ghosts and sensing
emotional impressions on objects but no cure has been found so far. Recently
she advanced far enough in her studies to become an apprentice to Alyson, an
up and coming Anatomist, and Kalri is constantly trying to prove herself to
her new mentor.
