    Cortex Fan License Published

or... are used to writing licenses for Fandom Wikis, which utilize plenty of obfuscated js and backend code. but yeah, it's... weird.

With how many people have of role-played with since your first game?

about seventy from friends and/or ongoing campaigns. between cons and pbp, there's an effectively unknown amount on top of that, so I answered 150-200

Your favorite escalation die type of mechanics

I'm really loving the GYRO (green/yellow/red/out, pronounced "hero") system in Sentinel Comics. each action scene has a status tracker, which advances from green to yellow to red. scene environments generate more dire twists as the scene progresses. each hero has a status trait, which changes...

Take A Look At The DUNE Character Sheet!

...and a big fan of Cortex, so I for one am not surprised, lol. like, you could use both the STA and Dune character sheets utterly unmodified and run Cortex with them.

Cortex Prime - What are your ideas for custom made systems?

those are really just targets for SFX phrasing, and in context "people" sounds natural imo. the others might need adjustment I guess. Charismatic Combatant: When pairing a people skill with Fight or Shoot, boost your lower skill. Deep Reserves: When you push your Resolve stress, also boost a...

Cortex Prime - What are your ideas for custom made systems?

I think I should probably edit my sig to include this, but I've got a whole mess of builds I've thrown together, in various states of having rules or sheets. the ones I've put the most time into are: Mythikal — it started as my way to get D&D-like stories into a Cortex table, but it's something...

    Powered by Apocalypse

ah, they're only sortta different games, lol. I hadn't looked at the Starter Kit, just the final book, which doesn't have any acknowledgement of the Bakers (I did actually check before posting my previous comment), and it pulled Heal and Build out of the action list (Heal is still sortta there...

    Powered by Apocalypse

...if that was PbtA at some point, it's unrecognizable as such now. it's more like if Fate and Cortex had a kid, and then that kid got raised by the Sentinels card game. I agree, it's very good (I'm in two games of it now), but I wonder if we're talking about different games, lol.

    Powered by Apocalypse

it's about finding and building community through the commonality of queerness and a slow-breaking apocalypse. the two big departures from general PbtA are that it's got no GM and no dice. also, it's Avery Alder's writing, which is sensual and poetic in ways that never fail to utterly destroy me...

    Powered by Apocalypse

oh no, lol. PbtA games are so laser-focused this is like asking a carpenter their favorite tool — are you cutting, or planing, or drilling, or driving, or or or... case(s) in point: Masks is my favorite teen-soap-opera-with-superpowers game. Rhapsody of Blood is my favorite...

    Tracking initiative

I play Cortex, Fate, and SCRPG, so it's all elective action order. in f2f play, we flip a visible token to indicate a turn's taken, and flip them all back as the round moves forward. in online play, I stick a token on the player icon to do the same. but... I'm sitting here thinking... has...

Inside Out's five emotions as a game mechanic for psychic combat

...please look at Masks (and possibly The Veil). tbh, it probably swings all the way in the other direction, in that there are no hit points (or rigidly defined cover/concealment/gear/etc), but combat is literally abstracted to the point where your (and the villains' for that matter) "hit...

Inside Out's five emotions as a game mechanic for psychic combat

well. you could build an entire Cortex game around this concept, if you want all interactions to be influenced by the emotional flavor. the main trait set would just be the emotions, and you could do the Dragon Brigade thing of pulling from the same trait set twice (so you could blend emotions)...

You Have The Power! New Masters of the Universe RPG!

lol, I love how the answer to "gosh that's a lot of result types for a single roll" is "here's a wall of text explaining the heaviest version of Cortex so far" — seriously, watch the Legends of Grayskull livestream, find liveplays of Leverage and Firefly (which are the leaner Cortex variants)...

Kickstarter [Kickstarter] Iron Edda: War of Metal and Bone (for Fate & AW/DW*)

Funded! STRETCH GOALS!! The latest update to the KS lists all the stretch goals - should be Update #6, and it's accessible to non-backers. Let's see if we can't get this cross-posted to as many system-specific forums/tumblrs/whatever as possible, and get as much funded as we can! Full...
