What's a Freelance RPG Writer Worth?

Not a horrible metric, but one that I suspect won't get you where you're trying to arrive, logically. The imaginary novel I mention is pretty much guaranteed to net me 2-3 hours of enjoyment. On my first read. I'm kind of wonky in that I will re-read books. Anywhere as little as a year and...

What's a Freelance RPG Writer Worth?

I'd like to thank the publishers who are participating in this discussion for being open and forthright. Generally the topics of income and profits are taboo, and it's heartening to see actual numbers posted. Personally, I'm a consumer. I'm not published. But I'm a skeptical consumer. I...

Pathfinder 1E Opinions please on these two player created magical items.

I know this is (too) late, but I just wanted to throw this out there... The 3.5 Magic Item Compendium had a scarab of stabilization which cost 20,000gp. Now, that wasn't a once-per-day thing... it would work repeatedly. Also, the item had a second ability; once - ever - if you lost enough hit...

    Pathfinder 1E Opportunity Shot

Broken. Sorry, it's that simple. For a feat it might be reasonable to let a bowman threaten 5ft, but I'd probably make a prerequisite the other feat which lets you take a shot without provoking. Threatening 30ft is just unreasonably powerful.

Pathfinder 1E What is Paizo going to do when 5E comes out?

I think it's a non-issue. PFRPG appealed most to people who didn't want to switch off of 3.x How a 5th edition is going to entice that crowd to switch systems after another five years of entrenchment and investment... I don't know. Sure, PF players may try 5e but I don't think we'll see a...

D&D 4E Poll about your interest in 4e

My group was mostly 3.x, having had older edition experience. We got the PHB/DMG/MM combo as soon as it came out for 4e and gave it a whirl. The biggest problem we had was the flattening of magic's flexibility. Durations and intensity of spells were nerfed in a way that was very, very...

Pathfinder 1E The elemental bender class... (yes I'm aware of another topic like this from earlier)

Maybe I'm missing it, but you haven't got anything regarding what makes a bender a bender. What does it DO? Details on saving throws or hit dice or how to break down its abilities really should predicate on these "bending techniques". You need to produce the meat & potatoes before you decide...

Start high, build slow HP tweak

I'm just going to throw this out there before a bunch of work is done that maybe doesn't need to be. The two drives behind this are 1} desire for beefier opponents at low-level and 2} desire for falling off a cliff to be fatal even at high level. First up, take a look at the wiki for free...

Is the cleric's "Channeling" ability a mistake?

I'm just guessing this is now pouring out of the thread on Paizo's forum, since really, the premise isn't getting much support there. There's a couple die-hard legacy rules supporters but the vast majority seem to accept the new rule. The "need" for Selective Channel isn't one. Many...

Pathfinder 1E A Monster of Golarion

ISWG page 187. And that is why owning PDF copies is so useful.

Redidual damage - the shadows left after magical healing

Here's a question... are you planning on having your bad guys have various realistic amounts of residual damage when you stat them out or is it just your PCs that get screwed? I get what you're trying to do, and it's a reasonably elegant and original way of handling it. The problem is that it...

    New Spell - Enchantment Transfer

By definition if a rule is accepted at a table by the DM, it's not cheating. Doesn't matter if it's a house-rule, a rule in a book published by Paizo, or if it's just... a spell custom crafted by doing research as is allowed by - get this - the Core Rulebook. All? As in, even the background...

Undead Apocalypse - How to handle clerics and paladins?

Bingo. There's nothing wrong with running a dragon campaign where the PCs know what's coming and kit out dragon-hunter characters. So too there's nothing wrong with running an undead-heavy campaign and your players get to pick classes that are actually good at dealing with undead. "Your...

    High AC normal?

Thanks. That's what I get for not actually statting the character sheet and instead doing it all in my head.
