My DM jokingly does this. Something odd that I've found that he does, though, is that he calls me by my character's name even when we're OOC. He doesn't do this to any of the other players. I'm not sure if it's because he can't remember my name or if it's because my character's name begins with...
If I understand you correctly, the Dex restriction on medium or heavy armor only affects your AC. If you have an 18 score in Dex and wear plate, you still get a +4 on initiative, Dex saving throws and ability checks, and to any weapon attacks that use Dex as a modifier.
That added column really helps. It looks like ACs were arranged so the "money levels" (Tiers 2 & 3) rely more on the dice being hot than the modifiers, unless I'm reading it wrong.
Interesting that it's a larger leap from 1-8 (2 ASIs for single class characters) than it is from 9-20 (3 ASIs). I wonder if that's because the developers assume that attack stats will be maxed ASAP and then players will focus on something else for higher-level play.
