    D&D 4E 4E Dislike - a hypothesis

Most anybody can say why they hate it, or why they like it. This topic can be debated forever along with the numerous other additions come out. I think all the variables haven't been explained yet. If what the topic explains, that those that started playing DnD prior to the release of 3rd...

Why the Modern D&D variants will not attract new players

I think I have read that dungeon magazine too. Hack and Slash vs. Roleplaying. When I think of hack and slash, it is more of let's see what we can throw against the characters and see what happens. If I recall they had a funny cartoon about one of the players running a game, because the DM and a...

Those are one of those useful creatures, and the more you think about them and how to use them, the more devious you become.

    D&D 4E 4E Dislike - a hypothesis

I started ODnD and ended in 2nd edition. I played some 3rd edition and it was okay, just too rule based, or so I thought. The story has more impact than just a typical hack and slash, granted most DMs do take that hack and slash route, but you fuel a good story behind and everyone has a good...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Why Enlarge PERSON?

I think you are on to something there. Baldur's Gate had infinitesimal amount of changes especially when it came to spells, and character ability. My group had tried the switch from 2nd edition to 3rd edition and we felt it was too video game like, when items would be restricted to level. Not to...

Hirelings/Cohorts? Does any every hire them?

Hirelings and henchman, as they were called in second addition were fun. I had a rogue that would hire other thieves to use them as diversions and stuff, or to steal something from the mark, I would target, or just to gather intelligence. With a good DM they can be quite interesting, it just...

    Surreal Elements

Not to be rude or anything, but you could say something to the effect. The Forest of Twinkling Doom. A bit of hilarity, to the surrealism of the theme.

Sounds like the Greater Dopperganger. You could just use the scion rules, and just build on it. I do think they are immune to critical hits, and other immunities as well. Not to mention that you could form some pretty good plots using them as well. In as old game, we were investigating...

Trivia: When did you first play D&D?

It was 1989, my mom bought me the Forgotten Realms boxed set. I played a human fighter who later dual classed to a mage. Our games took place in an old building, that a friends dad owned and used it for our games on the weekends.

    Favorite Class

I don't think it is a matter of power. Any one class could be more powerful than the other, but it is the idea that you get when you play it. A rogue could easily overpower any wizard, or warrior, if played properly. Then again, it is just a matter of preference. But my all time favorite...

Why the Modern D&D variants will not attract new players

Great points! I think these new systems take away the fun in role playing. 3rd edition had some good points, but all in all, the bases was character power, not the whole experience. The game as we know it, became just hack and slash basically. However, I don't think that we should bash them so...
