    Intelligence to Initiative

Not always. My real problem with Initiative is that the result is scattered by the whim of the fiendish d20, which means bonuses don't matter much unless they are really high (via Imp. Init. feat) or you happen to get a roll close to that of the monster. With attacks, saves, skill rolls, etc...

What are the key thematic elements of the Druid Class?

Off topic, but very good point. 3.5 had a rule for random (outdoor) encounter ranges which was, IMO, the most often ignored rule in the game. When used properly, an encounter at range offered PCs one or two full rounds of ranged attacks and spells. It legitimized the archer ranger, as...

When zombies eat innocent tavern goers

Dude can I totally crib this adventure from you? My own 4e campaign idea may or may not include a Skaven ring (W40k style) intent on taking over one of the major kingdoms ;) EDIT: I would probably run it with the PCs getting to be part of a first time zombie fest. The strange controller...

What are the key thematic elements of the Druid Class?

I can only speak from experience. Back in 1e AD&D, the only character I leveled all the way from 1st to 9th level was my druid, Seminole Sam! And what were Sam's favorite spells? Flame Blade (comparable to a simple melee attack, but does fire damage) Entangle (control spell par excellence)...

Hi, should the Scourge have the Offhand property?

    D&D 4E 4e Duskblade

Let me clarify. I am planning (and still intend to do this with my Duskblade variant) to pretty much rip off a bunch of Desert Wind maneuvers and make them into 4e duskblade powers, just as has been done for the other classes using Devoted Spirit, Iron Heart, Diamond Mind, Tiger Claw, and White...

    D&D 4E 4e Duskblade

I was going to come up with a Duskblade sooner or later, because my campaign has a large Elven & Half-elven population, and because I love the 3.5 Duskblade. No, really! You just beat me to it, Kinie. :-) One thing I was planning to do was incorporate features from not only the 3.5...

    Protable Balista Anyone??

The Ballista is a staple of old school wargaming, and hence earlier D&D editions. It was featured in at least one AD&D module (A1, I think). In a 3.0e PbEM I ran, one of the PCs wanted to buy or lease a towed dart engine to help defend their caravan. (Similar to a ballista. I didn't let him...

    Medium Armor type?

I was waiting for someone else to try this first ;) and am fairly pleased with your results, a couple comments though. I'm not sure if they all should be considered "medium" armor. I would give full stat bonus to Padded (otherwise it will get no use) and none to Breastplate. Also I would...

    D&D 4E 4E Dual classing

I never liked the 1e or 2e dual class (as opposed to multiclass) options. It seemed too contrived to make you "start over" in the second class and to punish you with XP forfeiture if you "slipped" into the previous role (in a desparate situation, or whatever other reason). These were imperfect...

Stopping the "extended rest after every encounter"

Yeah I remember playing the magic-user who basically became a glorified torch holder after he cast his Sleep and MM. Just think, party behavior would have been a lot different in 2e if the fighters and thieves had used up their best attacks as well after 1 or 2 encounters. This is something of...

    Heavy Armor penalizing Reflex defense

Well there's no precedent in previous editions for it. Armor never penalized saving throws of any kind. But it makes sense, and would not damage the game, other than possibly making your players think twice about taking heavy armor. *player raises hand* "Umm, can I shift 2 points from Con...
