"Dust" and "Midway" - Codenames for Upcoming D&D Hardcovers

Dust: I offer three steaming piles of prophecy. 1. Possibly a rousing update of the Master of the Desert Nomads/Temple of Death modules from D&D Expert, and the re-appearance of the beloved nagpa. 2. Possibly a romp in the Tomb of Horrors. 3. Possibly a version of Peter Pan, set on a revamped...

D&D 5E (2014) Two Weapon Fighting- Extra Attack- Horse Breaker

If you have a light melee weapon in each hand, four (I think). Take the Attack action (that's one). Extra Attack from Barbarian gives you another (two, PHB 49). Horde breaker gives you another (three, PHB 93). Fighting with two light melee weapons gives you another as a bonus action (four, PHB 195).

    D&D 5E (2014) Poll: Polymorph Shenanigans

None of the above. Polymorph replaces any and all class and race features (including feats) with those of the assumed form. Turn into a Tyrannosaur? Grab the Monster Manual and check out the stat block on page 80. That's you for the duration.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Playtesters: How Was It?

Playtest: Fun but messy. The rules were very rough. Advantage and disadvantage were a big hit at the table. Fighters had damage on a miss for a while. At one point, everyone had level-based bonuses to weapon damage. Some races bumped the damage dice of iconic weapons.

D&D 5E (2014) How far can you nerf spellcasting and still consider it DnD5?

In addition to the previously mentioned Red Death setting, TSR also did a run of historical campaign sourcebooks for 2e (Vikings, Celts, Charlemagne) that drastically limited available spell schools. The Lankhmar setting somewhat limited spell selection and also cranked up spell casting times...

D&D 5E (2014) Attack of the Clones: Simulacrum

I'm torn. On one hand the Army of Me scenario produces some amazing story backgrounds, but on the other hand this use of simulacrum throws the action economy of the game into a woodchipper. Sure, the duplicates cannot regain expended spell slots and yes, those duplicates have to keep burning...

    Striking a Specific Body Part

OK, I admit that I was fond of the idea of rules for striking a specific body part. Unfortunately, I grew up with the 2e-era rules that punished accuracy (the called shot). For 5th, I ported some of those ideas, but based the control on luck. These rules are based on a humanoid physiology as...

    D&D 5E (2014) Now I Know What I Want Next....

The basic version of the game in soft cover with all interior art done by Richard Whitters. And for a center spread--little goblin freaks armed with a pencil-powered catapult assaulting a DM, who is peeking over the screen at the dice and critters and carnage below.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: Whips?

Indy this. Indy that. What, no love for Castlevania from you all? /ragequit

    D&D 5E (2014) Easter Eggs in 5E

Looks like a version of the futhark runes to me. Runes in the initial positions of words are often reversed or inverted, but otherwise, pretty much like the script from The Hobbit.

    D&D 5E (2014) Easter Eggs in 5E

PHB page 73. The tapestry inscription reads "This is Photoshop's version of 'lorem ipsum proin gravida nibh velit....' "

    D&D 5E (2014) Plot Points in DMG

In two ways: You get one plot point, can spend one per session 1. Player introduces a twist. One example given is stating that a monster currently in play is actually a long lost ally polymorphed into a bestial form. At the group's option, the player to the right of spending player introduces...

D&D 5E (2014) DMG: A Few Magic Item Variants, Epic Boons

Mixing potions effects are in as a variant rule, percentile roll with a low probability of explosion, poison, or permanence ala 1st edition. Scroll mishaps is in. Magic item details (the creation, history, quirks and minor effects from the playtest) is in. Sidebar gives some ideas about...

D&D 5E (2014) What Campaign Setting(s) Do You Want To See in 5E?

    1. Planescape 2. Council of Wyrms 3. Dark Sun 4. Gothic Earth

D&D 5E (2014) Translating fencing schools (Destreza, Scrimia, etc) to 5E?

It sounds like you are already doing these schools as a kind of supplemental backgrounds. Why not extend what you are already doing a little further and flesh out each with flaws, bonds, contacts, and so on that relate to the school? The backgrounds option hits the role-playing and exploration...
