Is the barbarian too powerful in your campaign?

The Barbarian is really strong up at low levels; he dominated our campaign (combat anyway) over a TWF and a Monk until Level 6 when the TWF feat selections pushed her into the lead. I expect the TWF to continue to outpace the Barbarian after level 6. So, yes, the Barbarian is going to smash...

Monk - what do you like and dislike?

I dont think this is correct. The Monk's Belt lets a Monk operate as if he was 5 levels higher, which gives him a big bump in damage output, potentially two ranks of damage dice at some levels (3rd,7th etc.) Though the L12 Monk I DMed had this item, it still didn't help him compared to the...

Monk - what do you like and dislike?

Ooops, I forgot about this thread. I appreciate Cactot throwing some more numbers into the fray; I generally agree with them even if I am going to poke at them a bit. ;-) I would like to see the stats for this Monk; I've seen high STR builds touted before, but I've never seen one in play...

Monk - what do you like and dislike?

Do we agree with this argument? ;-) I'm not sure I do, though I have never played a L20 Monk. I'd argue that it's more important to get the L1, L5 and L10 Monk right; those are the levels that the bulk of PCs are in practice. So is 1d8 or +1BAB at L1 broken? Here's some damage per round...

Monk - what do you like and dislike?

At what levels does the damage need to be more reasonable? There's a lot of talk about 2d10, which only matters at epic levels (which are often considered crazy and unbalanced anyway.) At level 1 its a pathetic 1d6, compared to a fighter who probably started with 1d10. At 5 it is a mediocre...

Monk - what do you like and dislike?

Good things about Monks: 1) Good saves. 2) Some good scouting abilities 3) Really good at beating up weak opponents. 4) Really good at running away. Bad thing about Monks: 1) Very bad at beating up strong opponents. 2) Not enough other uses to party that party will forgive you for not beating...

If Dimension Door / Teleport is prevented....

What happens if magical transport is prevented by something like AntiMagic or a Forbiddance in the target zone? Does your Teleport just fizzle, like Teleport Without Error does if you make an error, or do you get shunted to a nearby available space? Or something else?

Why are these minis so hard to get off of eBay?

Indeed. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of dealers on eBay as well; people selling at "Buy It Now" prices if you don't want the hassle of being outbid at the last second. People with reputations in the 1000's etc. My last purchase was a Glabrezu, a Couatl, a Rakshasa (all rares) along with a...

Why are these minis so hard to get off of eBay?

Just the expensive ones. ;-) Bulettes and Treants are pretty sweet and you'll probably pay more on shipping than you will on the mini. Sahuagin another popular Uncommon it seems. I don't think they are particularly great in the minis game, but they are a nice sculpt.

    Angelfire scoops continuing...

I was thinking the same thing about the decal; but even decals are a bit tricky to place just right. Also, if it was a decal you'd think they would use them on all of the humanoids, or at least all the rare humanoids. Which figures did you see detailed eyes on? Here's my list from only the...

    Angelfire scoops continuing...

Tangent: painting techniques for eyes. Has anyone else noticed that there is now a painter somewhere on the D&D assembly line who knows how to paint detailed eyes? I've gotten a Crow Shaman and a Voice of Battle, both done with the "black outline->white center->black pupil" technique. For...

    even encounter?

I think you might have misinterpreted what the GM said. The "humility teacher" lives in a way different place than the "boss monster", you shouldn't run into him again. He's still a brutal challenge the one time you face him, but - assuming you can survive that somehow - he can't really hunt...

    Clockwork Orange

I look at Clockwork Orange as just showing you Alex. "Here he is. What are you going to do about him?" I don't think Kubrick has a position or a solution to the problem. Kubrick seemed pretty cynical about incarceration. He seemed pretty cynical about everything that Alex tried out...

    even encounter?

There are many older threads about this module; plenty of people have played it and have commentary on it. Including me. ;-) The module is supposed to take you from 3rd to 5th, so that you can play the next in the series. Most of us were on the cusp of 6th level after defeating the final...

Can the story be too complex?

This kinda sums it up; they just arent going to be able to play an faction-based city adventure without being able to remember who is who. Btw, I ended up in your situation after running a couple of Freeport modules, my solution was to have one of the factions send the party out into the...
