I have wondered if more/most of the dollars currently going toward other systems--DCC, Castles&Crusades, etc.--went back to D&D if it would make financial sense for them to have a well-supported rules variant that was more old school. Probably not. Sigh. A man can dream.
I grew up reading TSR Forgotten Realms supplements that were like three columns per page of 10 point font text with very few pictures. This is not a heavy lift.
