The real confusion is that this changed between the release of the PHB and the DMG. It used to be ANYONE could make an arcana check to cast a scroll, protection or not. Now spell scrolls can only be used by those who have the spell on their list.

I just don't think it's warranted. And I really don't think you need the spells seperate from monsters themselves. I mean Shocking Grasp Cantrip+int+pro 1action touch armor at adv 1d20+0 lightning 1d8+0 +1d8 at 5th.... (no reactions till start of next turn...etc)? Shocking Grasp, +5, action...

I believe the only healing OTHERS abilities before level 4 are cure wounds, healing word, certain divine domains, and lay on hands.

While you may be correct in that the paladin slots do not recover on a short rest, the warlock slots absolutely do, and in the multiclassing section it specifically states you can use other classes spells in your warlock spell slots.
