    Save my Warlord

Lot's of good suggestions, here. You do need to be a bit more selfish about the character if you want to have more fun. That doesn't mean you have to be less effective. As others have pointed out, diversifying your powers will make a real difference by making the character more offensively...

    How to sneak effectively?

If you want to play a stealthy Warlock, a Gnome Feypact is probably your best bet. You won't be able to maintain stealth all the time, but with Reactive Stealth (make an automatic hide check if you have cover or concealment at the beginning of combat) and Fade Away you should have two...

Darkness and the Black Dragon - Need advice

Or just go ahead and change the power: make it an effect which heavily obscures the area instead of totally obscuring. The characters will still need to be adjacent if they don't want to take the total concealment penalty, but if they are next to the dragon then its only -2 for concealment...

    Can leaders...do damage?

Warlords aren't so bad, especially if you upgrade their weapons. They won't keep up with a striker, but with 2[W] encounters and 3[W] dailies they do just fine with a Fullblade or a Greatspear. Go Bravura Warlord to push this as far as it'll go.

Holy cow my party is all strikers!! Forked Thread: Holy cow my party has 3 strikers

Re: scoring criteria, I think the simplest and most 'objective' way of doing this would be testing to destruction: both groups run through the same series of encounters with on a single short rest between each. See how far they get before everyone is dead. It's the only real measure, even if...

Sandboxing in the Nentir Vale (was: Emergent Features in KotS)

Sounds fun! I'm glad to hear that you managed to tie Malchior's message in. It'll be nice when they start turning back in that direction in a few levels. I think the Kelson plot will lead them back that way as well. As for the fight, it looks like they are in a bit of tough spot. Have you...

Holy cow my party has 3 strikers in it

Actually, I think the fact that there are more strikers than any other class is part of what contributes to the fact that people think they are the best thing ever. A lot of this is about perception: people talk about what they've experienced, and on the whole what they've experienced are...

    Optimize this 3-PC Party

For all the characters, think about dropping one stat to 8 and using those points elsewhere. For the Warlord, you're going to get much more mileage out of something like Bastion of Defense. As for the Fighter, I'd actually suggest toughening up rather than going for more damage. You want...

Sandboxing in the Nentir Vale (was: Emergent Features in KotS)

It's a disadvantage if the attackers are ganging up on Heckubus, but maybe not if they are trying to get past him and beat up on the other characters. Even if he had Melee Training, he wouldn't be able to prevent monsters getting past him easily. Try it and see what happens. I like the mix of...

Sandboxing in the Nentir Vale (was: Emergent Features in KotS)

Sounds fun! I'm sorry I'm not there anymore. How's the new party working tactically? I noticed that they have three ranged combatants and one melee. Are the paladin and the spirit companion enough to keep enemies off the rest of the party? Do the combats feel different?

    Help Build a Party

With a five-character party it doesn't matter too much what the role of the final character is, so long as you have one of each. They all work, just with slight different emphases. You can even drop characters from some of the roles, but you should have at least one defender and one...

    Ranger Beast Comparison

Yeah, but I think the raptor is much stronger than it seems against ranged opponents. The trick is to position it in the square 5ft up, directly over the opponent. Then they can't shift to a square from which they can make a ranged attack or run away. Think of it as putting your bird in the...

Defensive Staff Wizard vs. Deadly Orb Wizard

Staff means that you'll (probably) negate one hit every combat. Orb means that you'll will (probably) stick a (save ends) effect to a normal opponent once a combat if you can hit them. (It is important to note that there are almost no save end encounter powers.) But its actually a false...

    Grading Encounter Attack Powers

Ice Tomb isn't quite that bad if you work to take advantage of it. Because of the way conditions with "end of turn" work, all the Wizard has to do is delay and then immediately use his turn. Because detrimental effects only last to the end of your original turn, the ice will thaw off and you...

Barbarian Class in this month's Dragon !

My bet is that the Barbarian's main power will look almost exactly like this: Barbarian's Rage (minor; at-will) ✦ Fear, Healing Close blast 5; one creature; the target becomes the object of the barbarian's rage. The character's melee attacks deal an extra 1[W] damage to the target, and if they...
