Agreed, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got spanked for it. Fair enough. My problem is with the idea that 4th Ed forces you to have a certain party composition which I'm not keen on and the mooks symptomatic of this.
I like the idea of a bunch of players getting together and...
Mooks have been pulled directly from Feng Shui, along with Blast powers (meaning magical attacks, not the specific Blast effect in 4th Ed) and broad-archetypes with minor differences between two characters of the same type.
Personally, I think they were excellent in Feng Shui; kept the DMs...
I can't agree with this at all. Pretty much every industries runs on finding an idea that works and putting your brand on it. Look at the computer games industry:
Doom
Sim City/Civ
Command & Conquer
Street Fighter 2
Clones of the above pretty much account for about 90% of what's out there...
Personally; I find the core races to be incredibly bland in 4th Ed. It just seems like lots of Elves and nothing much in between.
So you've got your standard races; humans, elves, dwarves and halflings. You can't really begrudge any of them, they really are essential to a generic fantasy game...
I've been using wishlists for years, they're a good way of working out what players are interested in and a lot of players envisage their characters using particular items. That being said, they don't literally write a list of items and then get them ticked off one by one. It's more a case of...
Wooden arrow shafts aren't that flimsy. It's a fletcher plot I tell you. They've taken the craft skills out of the players hands as well, so you can only buy from union men. It's all part of their insidious scheme. Next thing you know, the Honourable Guild of Mysterious Strangers will start...
Must be pretty flimsy arrows if you can't retrieve them while you're cutting off fingers to get at wedding rings and prising gold teeth from their jaws (I mean 'searching the corpses').
Fletchers must be raking it in under 4th Ed. I expect the other unions will start petitioning the rules board...
MM - Page 278. Orcs don't have a line for skill bonuses.
I've checked all the other races in the PHB and MM and they all have at least one +2 bonus so I'm assuming it's a typo rather than intended. In my game we went for +2 Endurance and +2 Intimidate which seemed appropriate.
