James Ohlen Shifts From Archetype Entertainment Head to Creative Consultant for Tabletop RPGs at Wizards

Nothing so far seems to prevent both from happening. Seems like a lot of the recent WOTC personnel moves have been about making sure all of the various bits are playing together as one big happy family.

    Painting minis?

Look at it this way. It is a wash. If your eyes prevent mini perfection, they won't notice anyway. That imperfect mini will look great! Especially at table distance. So paint away.

James Ohlen Shifts From Archetype Entertainment Head to Creative Consultant for Tabletop RPGs at Wizards

Wild speculation but maybe one of his jobs will be figuring out how to handle BG4.

Diamond Distributors Asks Bankruptcy Court For Ownership of Publishers' Consignment Inventory [UPDATED]

Another thanks for the update. @Piperken , that 'ag' description pretty well defines my situation. Not a FLGS owner but as a customer, all the local stores in the past 45 years have seemed almost passion projects. One only, small, and the long term survivors also deal in comics.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E Quickstart?

Or for $5 from the same bundle, you get the Beginner Box, Player Core, GM Core, GM screen, one scenario and 5 flip mats. All pdf of course but pretty close to free.

    Painting minis?

In addition to paints, minis and brushes, get an X-acto knife set and a few of those diamond coated mini files. Most minis can benefit from some cleanup out of the package. Mold lines and such. One of those 'Third Hand' set of adjustable clamps can really help. 2nd the warning about...

    The "math" of RPGs

Balance is tricky. At some point, the GM assumes the players will play their characters a certain way. When the players(it only takes one) do something unexpected, an encounter can suddenly get very easy or very deadly for the PCs. If the GM designs an encounter to be deadly slowly with...

    Space Travel?

One way to simplify the tedium of many die rolls to 'just get there' would be for the GM to make one roll. Success, the ship is there. Fail, something interesting happens. If fail, then the various crew make skill rolls to see what is so interesting. Pirates. Jump malfunction. Passengers...

What Do You Need From Publishers?

Setting books that are not hard tied to one system. Example would be Green Ronin's Freeport book. Other examples like World's Biggest City/Dungeon books. Bonus points for including a pdf that recasts any included NPCs for other systems. Don't try to make me buy a $70+ book with D&D NPCs that...

Worlds of Design: After the Apocalypse

Not all apocalypses result in a bad long term outcome. The Star Trek universe assumed that Earth suffered a WWIII and still had enough tech and ability left to attract the green pointy eared aliens. The TV Buck Rogers show had a similar concept. There are post apocalypse possibilities other...

Making Modern Communication Work in Horror Games

Information on the Internet isn't always correct. Could be just a typing error in the entry. Or deliberately wrong info placed there by <redacted>. PC entered search terms could be wrong and result in information that seems good but isn't. Phone signal dies shortly after the PCs enter the...

RPG Print News – Dolmenwood, G.I. Joe RPG, and More

Sounds like a perfect excuse to create an assortment of pre-gen characters complete with G.I Joe quality code names. Let your new players pick from the pre gen pile but make it clear the code names are part of the character background. Bonus, this will save an entire session 0.0 dedicated to...

Cartoon TTRPG 'Toon' Set to Return with New Second Edition

A lot of SJG's KS are less about funding the creation effort and more about "How many do we need to produce?" In these cases, delivery is often just how long it is from the factory being told 'make this many' to arrival in your mailbox. Unless licensing prohibits, they often produce X amount...

D&D General Christmas elves in dnd?

Since Santa is often referred to as "A jolly old elf" it does seem like Santa Elves can grow beards. At least the one that is the Face of the organization. Maybe there is more going on behind the walls of Toy Central that we mere non Santa Elves are not meant to know. As for a D&D...

Will there ever be new editions of the major systems?

Short answer, Yes I expect there will be new versions. Depending on how you count D&D versions, there is a new one on average every 6.25 years. The 10 years between 5E and 5E-2024 is on the long side historically. I consider the ORC version of PF2 to be a new version. Even if not a major...
