WOIN How to change the "pinning down" mechanic?

Hi there :) So, i think i'm set on making NEW rpg my next system for a 5-year campaign starting soon. I'm modifying the system to my tastes and buying all avalaible material on the web, but i almost never run rpg systems without customizing them, so here i have a couple questions :) For now, i...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

This is an old thread, but i was thinking of a possible solution. Note, i haven't played the game yet, this is theorycrafting, but: how about using AP/HP rounds to get at least some assured damage agaist a target? This comes from the days of Jagged alliance, where sometimes you hit enemies and...

WOIN Explanation of math in WOIN + issues with alternate rolling methods

Hello there, i'm reading up on WOIN, and i am trying to understand the math behind the system. I am basing my math on these premises: 1) A starting grade 5 character with a dice pool of 5d6 will succeed on a Difficult [16] check about half the time. 2) Each benchmark represents a roughly...

D&D 5E Some feats/options are removing cool mechanical features of the game

Hi there. This is a little rant about some mechanics of 5e, which has some cool features that can add to the depth of the game that rarely get used, mostly because of feats. I feel that some feats (and possibly other options) are mandatory in order to have a character that is in line with the...

D&D 5E Oath of Vengeance Paladin?

Then the problem is MUCH less severe and easier to handle. A few ideas: - have some npc make him realize how he's ignoring the greater evil in order to pursue a smaller one. Make him realize that he's following a quest that is creating at least as much discomfort as he's preventing. - if he...

D&D 5E Oath of Vengeance Paladin?

If you are penalizing the character only, then go with natural consequences for his action. Just because HE thinks he's good, doesn't mean the rest of the world is ok with it. However, be prepared for possible backlashes. What if people come for him to answer his crimes, and he decides to step...

D&D 5E Oath of Vengeance Paladin?

Okey, but you still haven't identified your problem for us to help you! You want him to NOT be a paladin and be allowed to behave like that, or do you NOT want him to behave like that regardless of class? You say: If you/other players are not okay with it, it's an issue you have to resolve...

D&D 5E Oath of Vengeance Paladin?

I believe you are missing something here. You need to clarify (to yourself, too) what the problem is. Would it be okay if that character was behaving the same way, but his class was "fighter" or "warlock" instead of "paladin"? Would the other neutral/good party members be okay with it, if he...

D&D 5E barbarian damage reduction and combat healing economy

Solution A is the only one i'd consider. The other are too fiddly or complicated to manage or even remember each time. It IS a nerf to the class. It changes tactics. If you are okay with nerfing the barbarian, i think solution A is the strongest one.

D&D 5E Alternative Initiative: try this

I think having multiple cards per characters and discarding any cards after the first is cumbersome. How about this? If you have dex 20, or the alert feat, you get to say "i go first, instead" once per combat when another creature's turn is up. You disregard the character's card for only that...

D&D 5E Android app for search spells

Yes you are :) That's why i bought your app, backed it up in multiple places and arranged for it to work on windows. Thanks for making it. I don't see why wizards would force me to take 5x the time to look up spells than i have to. I'll gladly pay for an app that does the same for monster...

D&D 5E Is 5e still full of Save or Dies?

In pathfinder, i removed all those abilities from monsters in place of new, custom ones. (I'm particular fond of end-of-turn free actions that come into being at the beginning of the enemy's next turn -- and are extremely powerful, so PCs have to move out of the area of effect) Especially...

Anyone figured out math to remove extra attacks?

I worked some more math and finally found the formula that would allow me to do this. In doing that, i realized it's probably just as fast as having multiple attack, especially when i have to adjudicate all those things. (Sneak attack came to mind, where the rogue is more interested in having at...

Anyone figured out math to remove extra attacks?

Yeah i reckon its still going faster than pathfinder. However, that's a change i would still like try, at least in theory, if only to see if it's feasible. For now, with my limited math skills, i have discovered that If i add an (arbitrarily decided) +N to hit to an attack roll, and have two...
