But in 2025 shouldn't WotC be able to manage a poject with cool components, an intro the to the rules, AND a sandbox at the same time? For $50?
If nothing else, they could have upgraded the components to the Phandelver Starter set.
My problem with Hasbro is that they are notorious for scuttling thes plans about 1/2 way in. They wanted an in-house VTT then they cancel it. They bought a movie studio and sell it the same year that the DnD movie & the Transformers rise of beasts debuts. And sadly, I expect this guy to be fired...
The 5E team didn't ditch ability scores because of 4E. I think 5.5 should have, but every decision they make there is pushback, and you have to ask yourself, is that worth the change?
While some of the authors are considered stars by much of the RPG industry they have made games that just aren't for me. Like you, I hope I'm wrong too.
If I remember correctly, Matt's Dad may have recently passed, and they are dealing with other real-life issues and just don't have the bandwidth for this right now.
I don't think people realize how much money there is to be made in the OSR. And that makes some people behave like jerks, either...
In a blackjack system, the DM might assign a modifer to the skill level or say you have to roll above X but still below your skill level. Assuming its a d20 roll and you are rolling a skill with a 12 or less, the DM could say you are have a -4 to the roll or could say you have to roll a 4 or...
I think the type of dice resolution used is a factor, too, though. GURPS & HERO 's bell curve spotlight skill in a better way. A d20 is pretty swingy too so that should factor as well, right?
I've been playing with a DM assigned difficulty but as a percentage chance. So the DC would be 40% and...
You can only get the DLC with the $160 bundle of physcial and digital books.
This is at the top of this article, "The digital DLC is currently only available via an Ultimate Bundle costing $160."
It puts a lot of pressure on completists. The covers in this bundle are the mass market versions. You have to either decide on the covers exclusive to local game stores or the DLC and the mass market versions. It also spits in the eye of those local game stores. As a DnD fan I'd like the DLC...
Since we just found out the only way to get the Forgotten Realms "DLC" is with the $160 digital bundle for physical and digital products I feel like that is a major escalation of competing with local stores. At worst it requires a completist to buy that bundle AND both of the exclusive covers...
