I've always found the City of Splendors guide to Waterdeep (Forgotten Realms) as an excellent example of a thematic city-based sourcebook. Not only was it dense with crunchy material and pretty art, it contains some very good writing that brought a fantasy city to life.

I really like the reintroduction of this. However, I think the -2/-4 penalties as hit up by Viscissitude 1 is a bit powerful for that level of a discipline.
