I'm in the same demographic, looking for retiring within the next decade. Money isn't an issue. But I just got the 3rd edition so I still doubt about it. I do like alternate versions of the books though but I don't have any 2024 editions of the core books. I don't plan to play in the coming...
I have both now, just purchased the 3rd edition recently off Ebay, that thing is dense! I wonder how many 5th edition books it would take to print all that info.

Nope and I haven't yet, just read the "races" section so far. I have the 2nd edition gray box with Elminster on the top since I'm a teenager though. I haven't read a lot of Drizzt, I haven't got to the Spellplague yet but I was reading several other novels as the Cleric Quintet and other trilogies.
Just got 3rd FRCS recently off Ebay and I'm amaze by the amount and quality of content... I wonder how much books would need nowadays to have all that content, the font size is so small, this book is packed. I wonder if I should still get the two new FR books, I guess I'll just be disappointed...
Yeah, listening to them when cycling or rowing perhaps, but not 4 hours a week in front of the TV. But who knows, when I'm retiree, I might have the time to do that :D
