Maybe it was just my group that went through this, but I remember the tedium of people trying all sorts of things in 1st edition to figure out what the items they found did. ("I jump in the air. I put my hand over the candle. I touch the cleric. I think really hard about talking to that plant.")...
Adding to the "this must be a mistake" side, I'm surprised it took me this long to notice that the half-elf's +2 to Diplomacy and Insight, which the sheet says are already included in the skill bonuses, aren't actually included. It really looks like someone forgot to add anything at all for race.

And here I was expecting to blend in with the background, then occasionally dip into threads for dazzling and insightful commentary that bursts into epiphanies of d20s. Failing that, I'd at least opt for cheap jokes.
