It does depend a bit on what you are playing but for classic D&D 41/2 is the best number. 4 5 3 6 are my favourite - I find neither 3 or 6 ideal. My current group is 6 but I expect a drop or two each week so it's 4 or 5.
I never use DM NPCs other than where they relate to the plot & so are...
Sorry to pick on you Devincutler it's just you are most recent. The posts on the last page have largely suggested work-arounds which is pretty much accepting that there is an issue
Irrelevant really though very true. & the 5e designers have been extremely careful with the action economy in...
This is my patch too, though in fact it just ended my campaign (with a couple of other issues).
Concentration was dealt with by the summoner druid taking warcaster feat & then hiding at the back or just round a corner in perfect safety.
As a DM I found it ridiculously broken with the 8...
While I agree with the sentiment (& down voted Mystic talents as a consequence) this argument is specious while characters like my current bard exist who generates far more saving throws than he takes.
This on the other hand I totally agree with & add that roll against a static number also...
What I do in this sort of situation, which may have no relation to Hriston is take into account a character's skills/attributes & in game actions/the situation.
It's most clear in social skill tests. If you role play a good case & you are good at the skill I will probably not make you roll, or...
I like perusing weapon lists eg the pole arm stuff in 1e UA but I don't think the differences are interesting in the game (though I did convert all of the 1e polearms to 4e :) ). So NO!
The lists in this edition are pretty much spot on, with every bit of kit having some role (even if it's just...
Your model is incoherent at the moment as it does not mention levels. Getting a second attack at 5th level is worth far more than one at 20th level. In fact paying any points for abilities after level 13 or so would be pointless IME.
As Horwarth say you need to gain points per level not get...
I don't think they will be defeated in that situation :)
Lanchester explains, well describes, why 20 orcs all at once is more dangerous than 10 in 2 waves but it assumes the units on each side are the same. 20 Abrams will defeat 20 or 40 or 80 Shermans without being threatened. Bounded accuracy...
Is it as simple as getting the players to state their intent in natural language without using game mechanics?
I am running for a bunch of very new players at the moment & only the not so new one ever asks to roll things rather than wait for my determination of how to resolve their actions...
I don't think I was clear - your improvement is the best if you have to improve it (IMO & you find it works fine so there's that).
Balancing offence vs defence though is part of the game - there is not much to 5e combat so having a choice rather than an I win button to push is good.
Traps are...
That too sounds massively powerful as it is often better to keep your tanky dude up than plink with firebolts. Probably my favourite buff if you need to buff it option as at least it helps other people.
I have played this character too. If the spell is useful for a few builds it's good...
Isn't that in the introduction to how RPGs work in the PHB?
".....the players decide what they want their adventurers to do......Then the DM determines the results of the adventurers’ actions and narrates what they experience."
"We rest."
"After 10 minutes you get attacked..."
Bonus actions are only an important resource if you have bonus actions to use. So not for most Eldritch knights, wizards or warlocks who can spam this while chopping or Firebolting or Eldritch blasting.
