i have been thinking about the caster level for creation and this is what i came up with. the base is 16th level. i don't know how they got that but it is clearly the case. then it is arbitrarily modified if the golem has abilities unusual for the golem or problems in construction or penalies...

also look at the new golem on the wizard's site. coal golem large construct HD 11 CR 10 cost 65000 gp body 1000 gp craft (metalworking or weaponsmithing) DC 20 1100 xp finally you have to be 14th level to create.

ok, i've got some info to help you guys out. first about the OGC will allow you to use/copy/whatever the technical info in the book. the stats for monsters, effects of spells, formulae for figuring stuff out. it however controlls the flavor information, such as stories and flavor information...
