Iron Man was a well worn character in the comics, they still introduced him for the MCU. The likes of Raistlin, Drizzt and Elminster might be well known to D&D players but everyone else will be happy to see their origin stories and iconic adventures, most people will have no idea.
Their best, easiest to understand epic story with characters that should be iconic is probably the original Dragonlance Chronicles.
