Additional weapons and armor upgrades (NEW/NOW friendly)

After the extensive discussions of AP rounds and heavy armor's limitations last week, one of my take-aways was that the lack of variety between items greatly limits the design space of the game. Instead of just pointing out a problem, I wanted to help provide a solution too, so I developed this...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

Jumping back to the tangent! You could also just make it an upgrade for the weapon in question (i.e. a ballistic-weapons-only upgrade that switches over to AP rounds as a free action, ditto for HP). Make it cost like 20% of whatever the weapon is (price could be tweaked for balance... just came...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

That was roughly what my intention was at the very start, even though I'm not an engineer :P I hadn't set out specifically to pick a specific SOAK target like you're suggesting, but just by trial and error, I came up with SOAK 8 being the split point. This sorta makes sense, since it's where...

I have no interest in tracking ammunition, but I'm pretty sure one of my players would be upset that I made his sniper rifle "so much more expensive" lol...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

Found it. Game modes. Interesting concept. Maybe make specialty ammo cost increased by some multiplier (either 2 or 5). I worry that it breaks down with HQ or single-shot weapons though. Bullets shouldn't necessarily be more expensive just because the gun is better engineered. And someone...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

I'm an EONS supporter, but I don't remember seeing this. Is it already posted or to-be-released?

    Any details on that? :)

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

Halving SOAK isn't a bad idea, but it creates odd situations where an AP round doesn't quite ignore the SOAK of really flimsy armor or ignores 20+ SOAK when someone decides to shoot the mobile battlestation. It still leaves the possibility of being too good at times while simultaneously breaking...

    WOIN AP Rounds in NEW

My issue with all of these results is that they still do way too much damage against someone in heavy armor. AP rounds, as they stand in the current state are too powerful. They are cheap as dirt and come with no downside. As we've seen in the other thread, there's already a trend toward...

[For bigtino] Thread about heavy armor

For Kevlar (SOAK 5), that wouldn't make a difference, as any 6 would automatically break through SOAK. Without running the specifics of the math, that would increase the damage a bit more vs. the battlesuit, as any successful hit has a 1/6 chance of dealing at least 1 damage per damage die being...

What was the SOAK penetration that you used when you reduced the damage penalty to 1d6? Did you ignore 7 SOAK or 10?

The curves seem a little off somehow. Did you include the heavy armor defense penalty in that (to compare kevlar+def18 vs. battlesuit+def14)?

    WOIN Official Errata Thread

There's a problem with the equation of jump distance = (accel)*20-[(max speed-current speed)*20]. This leaves weird situations where a very fast vehicle is unable to jump if it is driving at any speed equal to or below (max speed - accel). Using the sample of a swoop bike (max speed 28, accel...

[For bigtino] Thread about heavy armor

I'd be curious to see what the numbers look like with a base defense of 18, since a defense of 14 is pretty easy to hit with 5 attack dice. We've already established that if you're very likely to be hit, heavy armor should SOAK more damage. The real question is where the tradeoff lies for...

[For bigtino] Thread about heavy armor

From a test combat tonight, I think that doubling the SOAK value of heavy armor probably increases its power too much. Increasing by 1.5x may yield better results, which I'll have to experiment on further.
