D&D 5E Arcane Trickster / Wizard: Diviner or Bladesinger? Ranged or Melee?

FWIW I had a similar rogue/caster concept and I went with a Dragon Sorc / Swashbuckler build. First four levels were Rogue 3/Sorcerer 1; I plan on being mostly rogue but taking at least one more level for sorcery points. Dragon Sorcerer and Swashbuckler has a ton of synergy: Draconic Resilience...

A glutton for punsihment (beastmaster character?)

I was playing Adventurer's League with a goblin ranger mounted on a giant frog. I bought chain shirt barding which helped with its AC. The frog's at-will restrain is amazing. Because it's not a grapple attack it's not constrained by size, and even though the saving throw is trivial, it still...

    The Wayfairers Guide to Eberron

    I think there's potential in a double-scimitar rogue.

    The Monetization of D&D Play

I don't think there's anything wrong, conceptually with paying to play D&D. That said, I have expectations. $5/person to rent a folding chair and a card table in a glorified dump with an unprepared DM is ridiculous. $5/person in a clean place with comfortable chairs and a high-quality DM is...

DDAL Merging the DDAL forum with the 5E forum

I can't speak for anyone else, but when Season 7 came out I took up Starfinder, and only started playing AL again after they announced the "Waiting it out" option for season 7. Permadeath in organized play is ludicrous, IMO. I also had a character stuck in Barovia, and missed out on a whole...

DDAL Merging the DDAL forum with the 5E forum

I think it's that the Facebook Groups have gotten pretty huge. Also, AL-wise, there's not exactly a lot to talk about.

D&D 5E How is the College of Blades in action?

I'll be playing one at Strategicon this weekend, so I'll let you know. After doing the build, what I'm seeing in the mechanics are: * Although flourishes take up the most column inches, they're actually pretty niche part of the build. They're only usable 2-5 times per long rest; they require a...

Unearthed Arcana Into the Wild: New Unearthed Arcana Covers Wilderness Exploration

A+ for concept, C- for execution. It's just not interesting or inspiring. Travel needs consequences -- like resource drain or story possibilities. Things like the random encounters in CoS.

    Dual Wield Swashbuckler

Since you only get one sneak attack per round, and dual wielding also eats your bonus action, it's actually not that exciting for a swashbuckler. It's a nice way hedge your bets against a really bad roll when one-on-one, but you're generally better off just disengaging as a bonus action when...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Thy Fearful Symmetry: A Circle of the Moon Handbook (original)

I would allow pack tactics and remove sunlight sensitivity. That's the recompense you get for having to be a kobold most of the time. Although I'd add no mechnical downsides with being a kobold, it would be a frequent topic of conversation amongst NPCs.

D&D 5E I think I am going to stop using solo monsters.

Whut? That's only true if every familial interaction is both uninteresting and bad. Allow a noble player to tap their family for wealth and/or access and you counterbalance that sort of thing. At its core, D&D is a resource management game, and family is another resource.

Future of the current Adventure League

I don't think it's worth fricking the individual points here, but I think @Pauper's concerns are somewhat valid on their face while missing the larger picture. To whit: It's not logistically possible to do anything outside of the honor system. AL is a massive, global organization of hundreds...

D&D 5E I think I am going to stop using solo monsters.

Mariliths are also not designed to be solo monsters, so it's unsurprising that their action economy doesn't work against a two tables-worth of PCs. That said, each turn it probably would have killed at least one PC, given its seven attacks. Also, if the Marilith could spy on the PCs and couldn't...
