D&D (2024) Is There A New Sheriff in Town?

Some years ago I read an article about a study that had interviewed people in a crowd that had been filmed in what observers felt was certainly an example of panicking. What the researchers found, however, was that every individual they interviewed had rational, even pragmatic, reasons for their...

D&D General Best D&D product of any edition (non-core book)

4e: The online tools for creating NPCs and scenarios. I miss the simplicity and convenience. From 2e, The Hero Builders Guide, which I still use not just for more recent editions of D&D, but for other RPGs as well.

The photo-shopped image that led off this thread is good humor, and captures the content quite well.

What Do You Call This Popular Beverage?

"Soda pop", as I understand it, derived from the chemical reaction of sodium to enable the effervescence of the beverage. Technically, that makes it the most specifically accurate of all the names we have, but when have we humans ever been satisfied with leaving things alone? Well, at least...

What Do You Call This Popular Beverage?

When I was growing up in Minnesota, "soda pop" was a fairly common term, but it got shortened to "pop" by the time I was 20-30 years old. What I still am bemused by is the tendency among some Wisconsin residents to refer to drinking fountains as "bubblers".

Paksworld RPG Based On Elizabeth Moon's Novels

This is an adaptation that I am looking forward to. The Paksenarrion series did a better job of following the development of anyone into a paladin than I've encountered anywhere. I don't generally care for paladins (they always make me feel like a rogue by comparison - lol), so these books...

If you're into Lovecraft, they've made another solo set in 1939 called "Mythos Rising" as WW II is on the horizon. I just recently received that, and haven't yet tried it, but I'm looking forward to playing in that world, too.

Another stand-alone is "Final Quest", where one plays someone who awakes deep underground, the only survivor of a party that set out to take down a legendary beast. In that game, you have a choice of simply finding your way out of the depths, avenging your allies, or taking on the beast by yourself.

In addition, there have been separate adventures. The first solo game Hart created was for playing a contestant in a gladiatorial arena titled, well, "Fight Club Arena".

The zombie fighting games (called "Zilight") are separated by time, sometimes centuries, and/or continents. The original is set in present-day England, one of the games is in present-day Seattle, and there's both a medieval adventure and more recently one set in 1920s Egypt. The one they're...

(I got a system note saying I used too many characters. This is the first addition.) There are two main series, each entry being stand alone, although the sci-fi games, under the heading of "Starship Scavengers", can be linked together. Hart had also written "Neo-City" set in the same...

Another prospect suggestion for the Not DnD program: Stephen Hart from The Grinning Frog. In recent years he and his assistant Ryan (whose last name slips my mind at the moment) have been creating solo adventures that use dice and a deck of playing cards to great effect. Take care, Jess. I...

D&D (2024) Greyhawk 2024: comparing Oerth and Earth

The movie was "Son of Lassie", filmed in 1944, a sequel to the original "Lassie" movie. Had to Google this to find it. Didn't realize there was a "Lassie" movie I hadn't seen. In the original movie, Elsa Lanchester played Timmy's mother - now, I'm trying to imagine a mash-up between Lassie and...

Not to mention that the Nyr Dyv is quite recognizable as Lake Superior.

Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk #300

I really enjoyed Dante describing the newly re-assigned layers of hell.
