Moldvay Basic D&D. I was introduced to gaming through AD&D but could only get the Basic set in local stores... so we switched over to that until we could get the AD&D books.
I've recently moved away from my old gaming group and am looking to start up a new group in the Hudson area or join in a group that's in need of a player or GM.
As a recent retiree, I have a lot of free time and flexibility as to when I can game, and am up for GMing or playing D&D, Pendragon...
The last session of my 5e game was THE last session of that game before I moved away. It was bittersweet because I loved the group and they (and their characters) really bonded over the course of the year and a half campaign.
I did a BX/d20 mash-up... BX3e Download Link
It's more streamlined than 3e (no prestige classes) but there are appendices that let you add "AD&D" classes.
My late, great Scruffy:
@payn, my condolences. I was a mess after Scruffy passed away (he had congestive heart failure and we eventually euthanized him because he was suffering).
My old girl, Daisy, when she was a bit younger:
And the ever-ridiculous Peanut:
My biggest gripe with 5E (which I like, please don't get me wrong) is that the power-curve for PCs is ramped up, adding extra complexity to the game.
At the same time, those gains are offset by the fact that the power-curves for NPCs and monsters are also steeper... making the game feel...
I just wrapped up a 5E campaign and, in spite of the rules, had a fun time with it and think my players did too.
In the future, I'd use my own Frankenstein rules (a mish-mosh of AD&D, Castles & Crusades, and 5E) as my go-to system.
From one D&D-playing Chris Perkins (who's also retiring this year) to another, I wish him all of the best in his future endeavors! He was an awesome ambassador of the game during his time at WotC.
