    5E Fictional examples of Rangers

Aragorn is the perfect Ranger. I agree about your thoughts on Perrin (great series). But don't forget Legolas is also a terrific ranger. The way he hunts and tracts the orcs to the village in the Hobbit trilogy. The way he wields two swords while moving through the hordes of enemies (what the...

5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

I guess this confirms the Ranger will be reworked because of Favored Enemy.

5E Remove feats and replace as magic items

You can also create magic tomes that offer a feat to the person who reads it and trains for X days. Then tome disappears. Now you have both worlds

5E Meet Robin Hood, Outlaw of Sherwood Forest

That version was not very appealing as it was a weaker version of the fighter in addition to not what we envisioned. We created our own spell-less ranger with modified subclasses.

5E Meet Robin Hood, Outlaw of Sherwood Forest

Because no character wants to be a Ranger as written. Also, Robin Hood has no magical abilities.

UA Unearthed Arcana Subclasses Part III: Artificer, Druid, and Ranger

Hopefully that is the case. I think that the Hunter 3rd level feature needs a boost. The newer sublasses offer one that give damage and and an additional feature that offers some additional benefit. Currently, most Hunters select the damage bonus. Maybe offer a player to select 2 options (and...

UA Unearthed Arcana Subclasses Part III: Artificer, Druid, and Ranger

I wonder when they will give the Ranger Hunter subclass bonus spells and an additional 3rd level feature to place it on par with the other new subclasses.

General Which edition of D&D are you currently interested in?

6th edition with a better written Ranger and Sorcerer class. Maybe different answer if variant class features come to fruition.

Class Features UA Ranger: Multiclass Goodness

You are right. But then I don't understand your complaint that if the Ranger gains the swim & climb ability, this removes the Athletics requirement. The ability only bestows movement speed.

Class Features UA Ranger: Multiclass Goodness

It doesn't remove Athletic requirements for climbing and swimming. It just states that they gain climbing and swimming and their speeds are equal to their movement speed. You still have to make checks to see if they are successful or not. Ie a climbing ability doesn't not allow them to climb a...

    5E Your Favorite 5e Houserule

Allowing Homebrew (especially Ranger & Sorcerer) Using a standard array of 17, 16, 15, 14, 12, 10, with no bonuses added from race. Earliest ASI bonus can be added is 4th level and only once (sorry variant human).

UA For Ranger fans. Does the UA article ‘fix’ the Ranger for you?

The PHB version is horrendous. These modifications are a step in the right direction, but the class still needs more work. Deft Explorer is great, though I would have preferred expertise in 2 skills (why give it to the barbarian). Also I would have added the proficiency to the initiative roll...
