Delvers to Grow - fast character building for Dungeon Fantasy RPG and GURPS DF

I love this! I've always prefered starting as lower level heroes. And as an into game I think it's better to have new players start a bit smaller and get a handle on things before moving on to higher point values.

How Many RPG Books Do You Own?

150+ Physical books. Much MUCH more if including pdfs.

    Why the hate for complexity?

True, and even though most of what a player needs to know boils down to "roll 3d6 vs skill", GURPS still has a rep of being one of the (if not THE) most complex games out there.

    Why the hate for complexity?

Many universal systems present rule options that are mutually exclusive and not meant to all be "toggled on" together. Others present games of scale, that CAN BE complex... if you want every bit of detail, but are usually built on top of simpler systems that work fine without the more complex...

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

You seem to have misunderstood... the character does NOT recognize the creature. That's the point. Insipid? Well excuse me for having Bad Wong Fun. Good day.

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

No, which is why I said that if this sort of situation came up, I'd ask the player to justify their action. Based on that I might agree, or ask for a roll ("Sure you've read a lot, but was THIS creature in those books?"), or say no ("You character is an illiterate barbarian that spent your first...

    Role-Players vs. Actors

As a player I am more entertained when the GM speaks in character, actually converses with my character in dialog. If it were just "you speak to the mayor, he gives you a quest", I'd be less invested in the game. And as a GM, I am more entertained by players that have a "voice" for their...

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

Sure there are going to be things that a fictional person in a fictional world may have "common knowledge" of that the player might not. That's where you ask the GM, "Would my character know about X?" The GM may say "yes", or "Let's see, make an IQ roll at -2", or "Do you have the Lore: X...

New monsters book for Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game

I didn't back HoJ the first time around, so I've backed Citadel at the level to get both books. Between them and the Monsters 2 book, I'm getting excited for Dungeon Fantasy all over again. I've even started dusting off a few old maps I had been working on.

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

Yup, which is why I stated: You stop and think, "What would my character do in this situation given what they know?" If you honestly can't do that... well maybe take a class on improv?

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

No, but I do think they are related skills. Acting, improve, and even writing are similar to what I consider good roleplaying. They all require you to get "into the mind" of someone else. To make actions and statements seem natural even when they are not natural to you. I, the player, am always...

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

What are you trying to say here? What contradictory beliefs? Or are you implying that acting is an imposable skill, because the actor playing Sherlock couldn't act like he didn't already know who committed the crime?

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

So by that logic, you would allow a player who knows how to gather and combine in the correct ratios, the ingredients for blackpowder/gunpowder to have their character do that in your (fantasy) game? What if you were playing a historical game? Could the player use their knowledge of history have...

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

Yes I was explaining a situation where the players would know about the monster but the PCs would not. But also in that situation, I wouldn't flat out say what the monster was. I'd describe it in somewhat ambiguous terms to give the players the impression of uncertainty. Okay, I feel we are...
