    Marking

D'oh... hit submit before finishing the post. So, basically... I'm thinking that this would apply to any power / class ability that has some sort of if x then y clause. Talking about the use of a different power, or a feat that amends the base power? Maybe the target would be unaware.

    Marking

PHB, pg 57 (Paladin's divine challenge is expressly used as an example) Basically, you're marked... you know it.... and you know that some amount of damage will result from an attack that does not include the marking paladin. Now... how much damage? Press your luck and find out.

Player wants to be with the bad guys

Thanks for clarifying... I hadn't picked up on that. Well, it sounds like you guys aren't going to have any fun. On the one hand, there is a tightly woven plot that will alter game balance if the PC is introduced. And on the other hand, you have an imaginative player who absolutely cannot...

Player wants to be with the bad guys

Just to make sure I'm following: you'll let the guy play a vampire, but not a human.... because they are too evil. :) All kidding aside, it sounds like you guys are destined to not have any fun at all. Unless... <rubs chin> wait for it... a compromise is reached. a) The campaign world...

Ways to Fix the Feat System in the Future

One of the things I noticed (and liked) about 4E from the get-go was that it toned down the power creep. In the previous edition (IMO), the game had taken quite a few steps away from a storytelling game with a tactical element. By the end, it seemed like one would need a degree in accounting...

I could have sworn Quarterstaves had a range of 2?

Did you mean reach perhaps? Seems kind of weird to consider a staff a thrown weapon.

    Role playing and Party Harmony

As long as the characters were acting as just that... characters, I'd say let the story play out. So what if one of the PCs bears a grudge against another of the PCs... in the right context that could be amazing. As long as that is what it is. What's not clear is the player motivation here...

Gestalt Kobold Werebear - Help with Class Choices

I'd stay away from a spellcasting class. Lycanthropes lose the ability to cast while in animal/hybrid form, so that stinks. I don't have the books right in front of me, but the Dragon Shaman class has some healing abilities that aren't spells (it's in the PHB II... not sure if that is...

    Help me betray my friends

Well, to be fair, I didn't hint that the players were impaired in any way... just that their opinions didn't matter as much. :)

    Help me betray my friends

The possibilities are endless. First things first though... PvP has never, not once, in any campaign I've ever played in been done without having the group disolve into bickering children. Learned that lesson long ago, and never looked back. Interparty drama is fine... dice rolls generally...

Complete Warrior has a set of armor that does that. Armor of the neverending hunt.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Divine Metamagic (3.5)

My bad. I don't have that book (core only for me, what with the limited budget and all :) ), I thought you were referring to metamagic feats in general.

    D&D 3E/3.5 Divine Metamagic (3.5)

I couldn't find if it specifically forbidden, but I would rule that no, a caster's metamagic feats could not be applied to spell trigger / spell completion items. Gilladian's first point is specifically mentioned. That you may, at item creation, imbue a wand / scroll whatever with a spell...

D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] DM questions regarding the art of magic war

Dandu answered mostly along the lines of what I was thinking for your questions. I do have an additional observation with one of your questions. At first glance, the fly/levitate combo made me shake my head. But after looking it up, it looks feasible. But it would take an awfully long time to...
